Snowball Fight!
The February PBIS reward for students was a grade level snowball fight hosted by our Specials teachers. The students had fun throwing soft fake snowballs at each other and targets in the gym. Each month the school will host a monthly incentive that all students have an opportunity to participate in. Students lose this privilege if they receive a Think-about or office referral in that month. Each month the students start fresh. Students really enjoyed the snowball fight as an incentive.
Please encourage all of our students to Be a Seahawk and RESPECT THE NEST!
CTE Visits Salk Kindergarten
The high school CTE program made a visit to Salk Elementary on Friday. They visited the kindergarten classrooms to excite students about career opportunities. Activities included dress-up in career costumes and coloring with career/community helper sheets.

STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES - MARCH 7th
Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with some of you during our March Student-Led Conferences. Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 7th from 1:00-3:30 and from 4:30-7:30.
These conferences are by request only.
Classroom teachers will be sending out requests to individual parents by Wednesday, February 28th if a conference is needed. If you do not receive a request by this date, you have a chance to request one by reaching out to the teacher directly or by using the links provided in next week's edition of this newsletter. Special Education Teachers will also be reaching out to families individually to schedule conferences as needed. Specials teachers will be available during designated conference times should you have questions or concerns. Students are encouraged to attend these conferences with their parent/ guardian, but it is not required.
Since only some of our students will have conferences, ALL of our students will be bringing home materials to hold student-led conferences with you at home.
Salk PTO
The next regular PTO meeting is March 12, 2024 at 6:00 PM in the Salk Media Center.
Kids Heart Challenge is Here! Thank you for all your support!
Salk Families,
We are extremely proud of our school for supporting this service-learning initiative! Thank you for helping your students participate in this educational program by raising lifesaving donations for those in need. If you have not had a chance to help – there is still time. Click the link below to get started! Thank you!
Winter Weather!
The snow has arrived, which is great fun for the kids at recess! This means students will need proper snow gear to be permitted to play in the snow at recess. Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather and with boots and snow pants each day.
In addition, please take time to label each and every item to help keep our lost and found to a minimum.
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons
Canvas- Parent Access
All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas LMS. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.
Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account.
All sign up information and resources are provided on the Fraser website.
Important reminders when using Canvas:
- Canvas works best in Chrome
- Please do not install the Canvas app (for parents or students). We are not supporting it as our staff and students are utilizing the web-based version of Canvas and it looks and works differently.
- If you signed up and paired with your students last year, you still have access to those students and their new courses this year.
- If you need to add more students to your account this year, please follow the directions provided below.
- If you have forgotten your password, you can use the Forgot Password? link on the parent sign in page. Then, enter the email address you used to set up the account to receive a password reset email.
- If you have forgotten the email you used, please reach out to Kim Keith, Kimberly.keith@fraserk12.org, for additional assistance.

Charlie the Therapy Dog
Charlie has made several visits to Salk with great success. Students are happy to see him and he really brightens the mood. Charlie will visit on Wednesday, February 28.
Charlie's purpose is to ease student's anxieties and increase positive emotions. We do not want his presence to cause fear or anxiety. As a reminder, parents have the ability to opt out of having their student interact with Charlie. If you DO NOT want your student to be around Charlie, then please fill out the opt out form linked here.
For the safety of students with allergies and Charlie, he will not be in the lunch room. Charlie will also remain out of classrooms in which parents have a student who opt out. Charlie will be under my supervision and kept on a leash at all times.
Rules for Interacting with Charlie:
Use calm bodies and inside voices when around Charlie.
Always ask before petting Charlie.
Don't take food around Charlie/feed Charlie
