November Weekly Update
Week of Monday, November 6th - Friday, November 10, 2023
Message from the Principal
It has certainly been a fun filled week with Halloween festivities! A huge shout out to every Room Parent and Teacher that helped make the day so memorable for our students! Every classroom engaged in fun activities and had a blast! It is hard to believe we are in November, and beginning to talk about the holidays. If you know of any families experiencing extreme hardship this holiday season, please email me at lacamerm@ccsd15.net
Please note that daylight saving time takes place on Sunday, Nov.5th, we will "fall back" one hour granting everyone an extra hour of sleep. :)
As the weather is changing, we kindly ask that you talk with your child to ensure they are leaving home with appropriate cold weather gear. We are seeing a high number of students coming to school without jackets and some in shorts.
Students generally go outside for recess every day. All students are required to go outside for recess. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess. Please see our district-wide outdoor procedures below. If your child is in need of a winter jacket, hat or gloves please send me an email.
Cold weather: Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0ยฐF, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0ยฐ-10ยฐF, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10ยฐF, students will have regular outdoor recess.
Warmly,
Michelle LaCamera

Half-Day Kindergarten. Students are dismissed before lunch so we do not serve lunch on half days. Students will be served breakfast for those that need one.
High Five Friday
We are excited to announce that on November 10th, the District will be participating in a community initiative called "High Five Fridays". We have invited our first responders and other community members to help greet students as they arrive at school in the morning. If you see emergency vehicles outside of our school on the morning of November 10th, please know they are there to greet our students! Our first responders and community partners have committed to participating at each of our schools again this school year! We look forward to welcoming our community to our school! It was such a blast last year and was such a great start to everyone's day!
Kimball Hill Designation
Summative Designations issued by the Illinois State Board of Education are in. Schools receive an annual Summative Designation on the Illinois Report Card in one of five categories: Exemplary, Commendable, Targeted Support, Comprehensive Support, or Intensive Support. This designation is based on the schoolโs overall accountability indicators, as well as data for multiple student groups.
For the 2022-23 school year, District 15 continues to outperform the state average in each tested area: English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and attaining English proficiency for students learning English.
Kimball Hill has been designated as Commendable, which means that each of the demographic groups within our school, has achieved or exceeded the stateโs performance targets.

World Kindness Day
World Kindness Day is Monday, November 13th. Lets model for our children ways to start making kindness the norm in our daily life.
5 Ways to Do This:
1. Send an uplifting text or message to a friend or family member.
2. Let that person merge into traffic with a wave and a smile.
3. Include intentional moments of kindness, laughter and delight in your daily schedule.
4. Go slightly outside your comfort zone to make someone smile.
5. Share a compliment with a co-worker of friend
We will be sending home a family coloring page to help share ideas for more ways to bring kindness to each day. See attachments.
Looking for a good book? The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig might be a great story to reinforce the way small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone's life.
Hat & Glove, Undergarment Collection
As a reminder, we are collecting new hats & gloves and undergarments for students in need at Kimball Hill. If you would like to donate an item, you may send with your child to school or bring to your Parent Teacher Conference on November 20th or 21st. Thank you for your generosity.
