This Is Our House
Mansfield ISD is dedicated to creating a secure and friendly environment for all. Students and staff members perform better in an environment where they feel safe and protected.
“This is Our House” is a district initiative to inform the community about MISD’s holistic safety initiatives, which cover physical safety and social-emotional wellness. It includes ways to be proactive about safety and security while also outlining resources to seek help.We are all in this together, and by working together, we can continue making Mansfield ISD a safe place for everyone.

Nurse Notes
Welcome back to school!
My name is Debbie Ruhde RN, BSN. I am the school nurse for Wester Middle School and JK STEM Academy. Before I became a nurse, I spent 28 years teaching PE, coaching, being a girl’s athletic director, lifeguarding, and owning and running a Tae Kwon Do studio and a swim school. I then became an EMT and decided to go to nursing school. After becoming a nurse, I spent some time in the operating room then did pediatric home health care. I missed the school setting, so decided to become a school nurse. This is where I belong and I’m so glad to be here at Wester and STEM.
I wanted to make you aware of a few points of interest:
1. COVID/Illness policy: The symptoms with this new strain are different for everyone. I am seeing fever, sore throat, headache, achiness, fatigue and congestion. Please inform me if your student tests positive for Covid and I will ask teachers to open portals. Your student can do school work, as they are able. The protocol is 5 days out of school.
2. Over the-Counter Medications: You are welcome to bring over-the-counter medications for your student. These include medications for allergies, headache, pain, menstrual cramps, stomach issues, etc. Please email me for the medication form that must be filled out and signed by a parent and sent with the medication. Please be sure all medications have not expired and are in their original containers. Students ARE NOT allowed to carry medications on them.
3. Prescription Medications: All prescription medications must have a medication form filled out and signed by a parent AND a doctor. Please be sure all medications have not expired and are in their original container with a prescription label. Email me for the form.
4. Medical Conditions: All medical conditions such as asthma, anaphylaxis/allergy reactions, seizures, heart problems, diabetes, etc. must have doctor’s order in the clinic showing symptoms and treatments needed. Email me for the forms.
5. Screenings: 7th graders, 8th grade new to district students, and 8th grade boys (scoliosis only) will be screened for vision, hearing, pre-diabetes and scoliosis. Screening will take place in Sept and Oct. In lieu of the screening: 1) Parents or guardians may provide a previous screening record signed by a licensed professional OR 2) Provide a signed and notarized exemption form that states the student will not participate.
6. Emergency Information: Please check Skyward to be sure your phone numbers and email addresses are up to date in the event your student has an emergency or is ill.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call or email me.
Thank you.
