Lady Vikings Square Off Against The Bulldogs
7A
The Lady Vikings were home against the Burnet Bulldogs this week. The game got off to a rough start seeing the Bulldogs score 9 straight with no response from the Lady Vikings. The evening was a chase game seeing the Lady Vikings down all evening. They never gave up, however, fighting until the end. The Lady Vikings struggled to get in rhythm allowing the Burnet Bulldogs to keep separation for the entire game. The tough outing allowed these young stars to see a different type of ball game, one which they fell behind and couldn’t recover. Despite the loss, the 7th Grade Lady Vikings take this as an opportunity to get better which is a big win. Final score, 31 - 17 Bulldogs. We face off our last game of the season at home against a tough competitor, Salado.

The Lady Vikings hosted the Lady Bulldogs from Burnet this past week in their second to last game of the season. The season has seen its share of ups and downs for the Lady Vikings but on this night it was all “ups” for the Lady Vikings. Everything seemed to come together and the girls just flat out played great ball from start to finish. The girls overwhelmed Burnet early and often with a suffocating and relentless full court press. Bulldog turnovers were converted into Viking buckets, one after another, helping to build a gap on the scoreboard between the two teams. The Vikings were strong in their halfcourt offense as well, creating multiple layup opportunities as well as cashing in on several three pointers from downtown! The girls would lead by 15 at the half and would continue to maintain that margin throughout the remainder of the contest winning by a final score of 51-37. There are so many things the girls did well this evening from their press, halfcourt defense, offensive rebounding, attacking the basket, etc… I could go on and on. I’m most proud that this group continues to play with their best possible effort, and it was absolutely wonderful watching them enjoy each other playing ball so well. The girls will play their final game at home against Salado on Thursday 2/6 to wrap up their season.
Leading Scorers from Monday Night:
17 - Lilah Culbreth; 15 - Te’a Turner; 7 - Lauren Carpenter; 6 - Lila Rodriguez; 4 - Kinsley Boyd; 3 - Aislin Munoz

Vikings Host Bulldogs
B Teams
7th Grade
Our LVMS 7th grade B team basketball hosted the Burnet Bulldogs, last night, in Lago, for our second meeting of the season. The Vikings fell behind by 3 in the first quarter, but ramped up the offense in the 2nd quarter to go into the half up by 3 points. The Vikings continued to play tough in the 3rd quarter, leading by 5. In the fourth quarter, Burnet made a considerable push for the lead, trailing by 1 point with 2 seconds left to go in the game. The Vikings responded with an outside shot off of an inbounds play to secure the victory. The final score of 22-19 put the Vikings on top at the final buzzer. Our defensive player of this week’s game is Ryan Cavanagh, and our offensive leader of the week is Bentley Byrd, with 5 points. This win brings the season record to 4-2.
8th Grade

The Vikings responded in the 3rd quarter by outscoring the Bulldogs by 7. With 2 seconds left in the 4th quarter, Burnet had managed to tie the game. Burnet managed to find an open player in the paint on an inbounds play to put the Bulldogs ahead at the buzzer. Our defensive player of this week’s game is Axton Sharrock, and our offensive leaders of the game are John Roberts, George Poe, and Travis Long with 6 points each. This heart-breaking defeat brings the season record to 4-3.
A Teams
8th Grade
The 8th Grade A Team Vikings had a rematch from an early season matchup with the Burnet Bulldogs Thursday night. It was clear early on that Burnet was out for revenge as they made some shots early. Lago was able to answer with some early buckets from Ayden Chaffin and Kaden Hodd. The full-court press of Lago, led by Cole Schroeder, Levi Castro, and Easton Rice slowed down the Burnet attack early on in the first half, giving the Vikings a 10 point lead at halftime. Coming out of the half, the Bulldogs had a big push led by their point guard and big man inside, but Colin Vardaman and the Vikings defense stepped up and made great adjustments to shut him down. In the 4th quarter, Burnet was able to shrink the Lago lead to 2 with a minute left. Some great play by the Trevors (Ledet and Lane) down the stretch allowed the Vikings to maintain the 2-point lead with 10 seconds left. As the Vikings inbounded the ball, Burnet made one last push to get a steal, committing a foul on Trevor Lane, who hit two clutch free throws to ice the game. Final score 42-38 in favor of the Vikings, bringing their record to 9-2 overall, 5-1 in district.
7th Grade
In a showdown that had the entire gym buzzing with anticipation, the Lago Vista Vikings and Burnet Bulldogs clashed in a battle that left fans on the edge of their seats from start to finish. From the opening tip-off, the Vikings came out with fire in their eyes, but Burnet was ready for the fight. The intensity in the air was electric—this was no ordinary game. The Vikings set the tone early, showing they weren’t just here to play; they were here to compete, and they came with everything they had.
The defensive effort? Unbelievable. Every player was a warrior, throwing themselves into every possession. The Vikings, led by an unrelenting squad, sacrificed their bodies time and time again to protect the paint. They were everywhere—stealing the ball, contesting shots, disrupting Burnet’s offense at every turn. The court became their battleground, and the Vikings were relentless. With every steal, every deflection, every blocked shot, they were slowly suffocating the Bulldogs’ rhythm. It was more than defense; it was an all-out assault on every possession.
But the Bulldogs weren't backing down. They fought tooth and nail, cutting the lead down with each drive, each possession a fierce struggle. Burnet’s pushes were met with Viking grit—every clutch rebound, every high-pressure moment, the Vikings dug deep and kept the pressure on. The scoreboard might’ve been in their favor at times, but the game felt like a war, and the Vikings had proven they belonged in that fight.
Then, the final buzzer sounded. The Vikings, despite their relentless heart and grit, couldn’t close the gap. Burnet, executing in the final minutes, pulled away for a hard-fought 39-31 victory.
But this game wasn’t just about the numbers. The Vikings, even in the face of defeat, showed something more important: their unity, their heart, their refusal to quit. They fought together. They sacrificed together. And that’s something no scoreboard can measure. The victory wasn’t theirs on paper, but they walked off that court with heads held high, knowing they gave everything they had.
In the end, it wasn’t the score that defined this battle—it was the heart of the Vikings, shining bright, even in the face of loss.

Strive for 5!
In addition to missed learning opportunities, many parents also may not realize that our school's funding from the State is directly tied to daily attendance. Each day your child is present, the school receives about $37. While $37 might not seem significant on its own, it adds up quickly. Last year, the District's funding was reduced by over $700,000 due to student absences. This loss of funds impacts our ability to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, and further enhance the learning environment for all students.
We appreciate your help in reducing avoidable absences so that your child — and all of our students — can take full advantage of the excellent instruction we offer every day.

Vaping = DAEP
HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.
