A message from the principal
Greetings, Dayton Families,
We’ve had a great start to the school year! Our students and staff are energized about making connections with each other and engaging in learning. This week, we are looking forward to many things, including our Welcome Picnic hosted by our very own Parent Teacher Organization. We hope you can join us on Thursday, from 5-7pm.
At Dayton Elementary School, we value creating rich learning experiences for our students and building strong relationships with every student and family. We are honored to be your partner in this pursuit. We have a strong team of educators and robust resources to help all students grow academically, socially and emotionally. Please take some time to learn about some of our resources below.
Character Strong: For years, our Dayton team has identified character traits that support our students’ social and emotional growth. We are excited to share that this is our third year with a program called Character Strong. Character Strong helps us engage in this work even more purposefully. Each month, our whole school will learn about a character trait. This month our focus is respect. Respect is “seeing value in all people and things and treating them with care.” Family resources, including conversation starters, family pursuits and more can be found here:
Kindergarten Family Connection
Every Meal: We are excited to partner with the nonprofit organization, Every Meal, to offer a free weekend food program to all our students. The mission of Every Meal is to fight child hunger through community and school partnerships. This program strives to make a difference in children’s lives by focusing on food gaps like weekends, school breaks and summer, when students are not receiving meals in school. If you are interested in learning more, click here. If you’d like to register for this program, please use this Electronic enrollment form.
School Counselor, Michele Lange: Michele can provide individual, small group and classroom guidance to help students attain optimum level of personal, social, and academic success. School Counselors also serve as a resource for families seeking additional support or resources in the school community. Michele Lange can be reached by email: michele.lange@ahschools.us or by phone 763-506-2266.
Parent Educator, Stacy Handeland, is joining our Dayton Elementary team as a Pre-K to Grade 3 parenting educator. Stacy is able to provide free parenting support, home visits/family meetings, resources, and other support for families. More info can be found here: https://www.ahschools.us/prektograde3 or by contacting Stacy by email: Stacy can be contacted by email: stacy.handeland@ahschools.us .
Community Resource: CROSS Services: A nearby nonprofit social services organization that assists individuals and families in need. More information can be found here.
Community Resource: Northwest Family Resource Collaborative: The Family Advocate Services include resources and referrals for food/clothing/household needs, as well as other family support services. This service is free for families. For more information call 763-585-7378, or click here for more information.
We hope you and your family have a wonderful September. Please reach out to me any time if you want to ask questions, share ideas or just talk so we can get to know each other even better.
Happy 2023-2024 school year!
Jessica Wippler

Bus app: FirstView bus app
Anoka-Hennepin families have access to their students’ bus routes through the FirstView bus app. The app monitors regular school bus routes in real-time. And, it’s free for parents/guardians and students.
While Anoka-Hennepin buses have an excellent on-time performance record, inclement weather, traffic delays, and driver shortages may impact routes. The FirstView bus app provides bus arrival times, anticipated length of any delay, an estimated arrival time and if a substitute bus is being used on the route. Email, push and/or text notifications can inform families of such information instantly.
Go to ahschools.us/busapp to learn more or download FirstView from the Apple or Android app stores.
If you are wondering about bus drivers, we are always looking for those too! Interested parties can contact Kottkes Bus Service (763.755.3100) or First Student, Inc. (763.421.5785) directly. I am certain they would be thankful if you were able to mention this for them as well. They just increased starting wages to be $24/hr. At last check they were about 90% complete with driver assignments, and hoping their last batches of new trainees make it through in the next two weeks. If so, we should be full to start the year.
Thanks everyone for anything you can do to help support Transportation!
As always, if you need anything from our end, never hesitate to reach out to our team.
Sincerely,
B.J. Ison
