Homecoming Dress-Up Spirit Days:

Wednesday 13th: Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration! - 2:45 – 4:00pm in the Learning Commons. Come and Celebrate with us by learning and playing some new games like La Lotería Mexicana and maybe even trying some easy dance moves! Snacks and prizes will be available and your attendance counts towards points for The Homecoming Cup! ¡Todos son bienvenidos! All are welcome!!!

Wednesday, October 13: Homecoming Tackle Cancer Dodgeball Fundraiser in Eastview’s Main Gym from 6:15 pm - 8 pm Cost: An entrance donation of $1 - $1million. Friday, October 15: Tailgate on Lightning Plaza at the Homecoming Football Game (vs East Ridge), 5-7 pm. Community booths and food concessions. All students and the greater public are welcome!

All Week:

Homecoming Cup – earn Cup Points for your grade by participating in Homecoming dress-up days, events, and service projects. There will be QR Code check-in at each Homecoming event. The 2021 Homecoming Cup winner will be announced at halftime of the football game on Friday.

Medallion Hunts (Indoor and Outdoor) – Prize $20 cash! Look for daily clues in your Schoology Updates. All students are welcome to join in on the hunt! 100 Homecoming Cup points to the finder of each medallion class.

Community Service (Student Choice) - All volunteering in the community during Homecoming Week will count as 10 Homecoming Cup Points per event. Photo evidence is required via this reporting form. Need some ideas? Pick up trash at your local park, rake an elderly person’s lawn, volunteer at Feed My Starving Children, serve food at a shelter, etc. All are encouraged to volunteer in the community.

Dance Location

The dance will be a blended inside and outside event: Students may dance outside on the East Patio without masks. It may be cold so dress accordingly. Students can also dance inside in the East Commons with masks. The same music will be played in both locations so students can easily move from inside to outside as they choose.

All guests at the Homecoming Dance who do not attend Eastview need to complete a Guest Registration Form. Forms can be picked up in the Main Office. The form needs to be completed by the guest’s home school administration and emailed back to EVHS on Friday, October 15, by 2:30 pm. More information is included on the form.

Homecoming Dress Notice

Eastview Community if you would like to “fit in” at the game on Friday night, get your Tackle Cancer shirt. They are just $15.00 and all proceeds go to a great cause. T-shirts can be purchased before school, during lunches, at the Dodgeball Event Wednesday (6:00-8:00pm) and before the football game on Friday (5:30-7:00pm).

In need of some new Eastview gear for Homecoming Week? The Eastview School Store which is located at the east end of the commons will be open during all lunches October 6-15. We have a large assortment of new spirit wear which should be arriving soon. Stop down at the Eastview School store to purchase your Eastview gear or Tackle Cancer t-shirt starting next Wednesday, October 6. Go, Lightning!

All students needing to serve Detention for tardies or for other reasons can begin serving Monday, October 4th. Afternoon Detention can be served on Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursdays from 2:40-4:00pm in C239. A morning Detention from 6:30-7:35am in Student Services is another option Monday-Friday.

Detentions need to be served within two weeks of notice. Any detention not served by the end of the quarter may result in additional consequences. Thank-you for being Responsible and holding yourself Accountable.

Students in District 196 will be provided breakfast and lunch at no cost during the 2021-22 school year due to a grant provided by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. All families are still encouraged to complete an Educational Benefits Application, formerly the free and reduced-price meals application. Upon approval, these benefits are extended to Activities/Athletics fees and more. A new application must be submitted each year.

The school district is hosting a Technology Support Night for Somali families on Monday, October 18th from 5-7pm at Apple Valley High School. Outcome

From listening to a variety of community leaders, attendees will receive a greater understanding of the growing diversity in Dakota County, understand both the opportunities and challenges this brings, and hear suggestions for how to be an active citizen who makes a positive difference in a community of growing diversity.

Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools

State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.

Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.

Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.

Review and Update Emergency Information

If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.

All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.

VARSITY & JV SPORTS

Girls Cross Country - October 7th

The Girls Cross Country team competed last Thursday at Owatonna in a 12 team invitational. The Lightning Varsity finished in a tie for 3rd overall. They were led by a PR setting duo of Hadley Knight and Emily Percival. Sonya Olson was close behind. In the JV race, Sam Quady led the lightning out from the start. A new team member and 7th grader Kianna Loberg followed her out and then took over the overall lead by the 2nd mile winning the race. So many season bests were set, setting the harriers up for a good conference meet on Friday.

Girls Swim & Dive - October 5th

Eastview Girls Swim and Dive were ELECTRIC Tuesday night, as they toppled Rosemount decisively. In the Varsity 200 IM, Stella Bushard (9th) took 1st, and Hannah Dubbe (10th) took 2nd. The JV 200 IM team also swept the first two spots, with Kaitlyn Mello (11th) taking 1st, and Anna Rohy (11th) taking 2nd. The JV team swam hard in the 50 Free, with Maggie Anderson (11th) taking 2nd and Alexis Lee (10th) taking 3rd, while on the Varsity side Rachel Hutchins (9th) easily wrapped up 1st. The girls swam strong in the Varsity 100 Backstroke, with Senior Rachel Smith taking 1st, and Madalyn Lindgren (9th) taking 3rd. Emma Vogen (11th) took 1st in the Varsity 200 Free, with Elsa Reilly (12th) right on her heels in 2nd. The JV team swept all three top spots in the 200 Free, with Keira Peitersen (9th) taking 1st, Marissa Montesinos (9th) taking 2nd, and Teagan Wolf (12th) taking 3rd.

In Varsity Diving, Senior Maddie Heim took 1st against a competitive Rosemount team.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Boys volleyball has open gym again this Sunday night from 6-8 pm in the south gym. Come check it out if you want to learn more or you want to play next spring!

New: Intramural Badminton starts on Monday, October 11th at 6:00 – 8:00pm in the main gym. Cost is $40.00 includes a T-Shirt. Please sign up online Families/MyPaymentsPlus on the EVHS homepage. Any questions see Ms. Gilson in attendance after 2nd hour or email connie.gilson@district196.org.

Saturday the EVMB conducted their 2021 Show ‘Electrified’ at the Youth In Music Championships at US Bank Stadium. The Lightning zapped the stadium with a megawatt of marching skills and entertainment that earned them a standing ovation and 3rd place among Minnesota bands in class 4A competition.

Eastview’s Carmen Pasquerella received a coveted YIM scholarship. The beloved Mr. Frank Pasquerella, Eastview band director and former Bluecoats performer, was honored with an In Memorium tribute on the jumbotron.

Of the 31 bands competing at YIM, Eastview’s scores earned them 5th place overall and qualified them for a spot in the evening’s Grand Championship Finals. A dynamic powerhouse and crowd favorite, the Lightning continued to supply a strong current of talent, precision, and pageantry at finals. ‘Electrified’ delivered 83.7 jolts in points and a 4th place finish for the EVMB in the Grand Championships. Cheer on the Marching Lightning when they contribute to the Friday night lights with their electrifying performance during this week’s Homecoming halftime show.

The first practice for all returning members will be on Tuesday, October 12th in the learning commons. The first practice for all members will be October 14th from 5-7:00 in the learning commons. We will have our first official Black Student Union + Black Honor Association kickoff meetings on Tuesday, October 12 and Wednesday, October 13. Join Science Olympiad! We will have an informational meeting for new members on Tuesday, October 12th in room C339 at 2:45pm.

Science Olympiad provides students the opportunity to compete in a variety of challenges in the areas of Social Science, Earth & Space, Physics & Chemistry, and Inquiry & Nature. Participants can analyze specific challenges and work collectively as a team to find solutions. The program builds skills in science, helps in creating a technologically-literate workforce and provides recognition for outstanding student achievement.

Hi! We are the EVHS FRC Robotics team! We are currently regrouping from our last season during the pandemic, and are so excited to be back as our preseason commences! We have already begun organizing our subteams and preparing our new robot. However, the preseason is only beginning and we are still happy to accept new members. So if you’re interested in volunteering, engineering, driving robots, or marketing, our team has a place for absolutely everybody. Robotics is a fun and enriching activity and a great community who get to build and compete together. We currently meet Tuesday evenings from 6:30-9:00pm. After our season starts in early January we meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays (same time) as well as Saturdays for all day practice in room B123. Join us!

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is a Christian youth group for teens at EVHS and RHS. The nights are filled with lots of energy, music, games, and amazing speakers who encourage, challenge, and inspire the students. The group meets every other Monday night from 6:30-8:30 (9 square and other pre-night games from 6:30-7:00, 7pm the speakers etc. begins). The dates we will be meeting during the first half of the year are Sept, 27th, Oct 4th, 18th, Nov 1st, 15th, 29th, and Dec 12th. Wanted: Lifeguards and Swim Instructors

Looking for a fun way to earn some extra money and make an impact on lots of children in our community? The Community Education Aquatics Program is looking for those that are comfortable with their own swimming abilities to help teach swim lessons.
