CATCHING UP WITH... The CVES Calendar
This Month at Canyon View
CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston
Principal's Notes
Dear Coyote Families,
It has been another SPECTACULAR WEEK at Canyon View Elementary School! Here are some Highlights from this week... Primary grade students attended an assembly presented by the Burn Institute where students learned to "STOP, DROP, COVER and ROLL." Many classes participated in the Wong Avery Global Language Program, learning Japanese customs and language. In the Innovation Station, third grade studied American artist Georgia O'Keefe and created floral art in her style. Our first graders practiced their coding skills, programing routes for their Bee-Bot robots.
Let's Make it a Great Year Together,
Mrs. Erica Edmonston (she/her/hers)
Principal, Canyon View Elementary School

PUSD Equity Advisory Committee
December 2023
Dear PUSD Community,
We are looking forward to continuing with the Equity Advisory Committee. Thank you for your patience as we spent the first few months focused on scaling work at school sites and engaged in thoughtful planning around our next steps to ensure racial equity and inclusion throughout PUSD.
This committee includes representative parents/guardians, students, and staff perspectives in an advisory role regarding the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan for Racial Equity and Inclusion. The Equity Advisory Committee will learn together, listen to input from others, and add value to our District improvement efforts.
The committee will:
Provide input and feedback on the ongoing work within the District focused on racial equity and inclusion
Provide input regarding the revision of the Racial Equity and Inclusion Plan, with an emphasis on metric development
Provide recommendations for next steps in ensuring every student and adult feels safe, valued, seen, and heard
Support consistent communication of equity improvement efforts back to school communities
We know that diverse perspectives from across our District and feeder patterns will enrich our efforts to ensure every student and adult feels safe, valued, seen, and heard.
The Equity Advisory Committee will meet four (4) times during the 2023-2024 school year. All meetings are scheduled in person at the District Office in the Community Room. The meeting dates are below:

CATCHING UP WITH... Volunteer Opportunities
Everyone a Reader: Volunteers Needed
We still need a few volunteers!
The Everyone A Reader (EAR) program is looking for volunteer tutors to help kids with their reading. The program was designed by the County Office of Education and its focus at CV is on 2nd graders who are identified by their teachers.
Volunteers come to school at the same time each week to meet with the same 4 students. Students come one at a time for 15 mins each. It takes about 1:15 to get the books ready, meet with the 4 students, and do some brief paperwork.
Volunteers can be parents, grandparents, neighbors, high school students, etc. They do need level 1 clearance as a school volunteer at Canyon View. Level 1 clearance involves a TB test and some paperwork.
We will hold a training for volunteer tutors (or training can be done 1:1 with the program chair).
Please email Sabrina at CVPTOVolunteers@gmail.com with questions or to be placed on the EAR volunteer list.
