All Californians now have access to free, online tutoring
Click here to start your free homework help session
Real-time free homework help is now available for California K-12 students through HelpNow, a program of the California State Library, by laptop, tablet, or phone from qualified tutors using state curriculum and standards.
The HelpNow pilot program currently offers help in Math and Language Arts, in English and Spanish, at any time of the day or night. Help for other core K-12 subjects is available between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Tagalog, with no age limit to who can take advantage of the resource.
Tutors can provide a virtual whiteboard, conduct live audio interactions with students, and work with learners on a wide range of concepts. Students are expected to work through the content and learn from the feedback. Tutors do not provide answers — they provide guidance and help.
All tutors have passed background checks and possess, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree.
Anyone using a computer inside of California can benefit from the live “HelpNow” program.
Simply click on this link to get started with a live tutoring session now. The average wait time is 23 seconds.

Mountain Kid Messenger
For those of you that don't know Rob Wade, he is the Plumas Unified Outdoor Education Coordinator and he is the man responsible for so many of the amazing outdoor experiences that our student are fortunate to be a part of. Each month he puts out an excellent newsletter to our staff. There's lots for our families to enjoy as well. Titled, "Mountain Kid Messenger" it's full of great information about our mountains and the unique things that are happening in the month of October. It also lists fun activities for all students, sorted out by grade level. I guarantee that even the adults will enjoy it. I certainly learned a few things. Click on the link above or the picture of the coyote to check it out!
Spotlight: Camille Klimek
Camille Klimek, a native of Portland, Oregon has been a teacher for seven years and currently serves in the role of Reading Intervention Specialist at Chester Elementary School. Mrs. Klimek was originally drawn to the profession because it combined her passion for the environment with teaching. Later, Mrs. Klimek became inspired to become a specialist because of the joy she felt when watching struggling readers learn to read.
Mrs. Klimek loves that she is able to work with students of all ages as a specialist. Mrs. Klimek also enjoys the determination, perseverance, and the grit that makes Chester kids so amazing to work with. She says that kids have a wonderful and “optimistic take on the world” that makes her job meaningful.
Mrs. Klimek loves spending time outdoors with her family, friends, and dogs. She loves running, biking, gardening, cooking, and eating Thai and Vietnamese food. Mrs. Klimek hopes to visit the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in the central mountains of Mexico to see the butterflies in mass as they transform the trees to orange.
Spotlight: Dawn Bereznak
Dawn Bereznak, originally from San Jose, earned her Bachelor’s Degree from San Jose State University and then her Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology from Chico State. Mrs. Bereznak has worked both privately as a Speech Pathologist for children, aged zero to three, providing early intervention services. Since moving to the Lake Almanor area, she has worked in both Lassen and Plumas counties.
Mrs. Bereznak enjoys working with students of all ages. She loves the uniqueness of each child and how she is able to embrace those differences to help each child reach their fullest potential. Mrs. Bereznak also loves that her children and now grandchildren are part of the CES community. She believes that Chester is more than a place, “it is a caring community of wonderful families”.
In her free time, Mrs. Bereznak loves being at home with her family and enjoying the beautiful surroundings in Lake Almanor. Her favorite children’s book is I’ll Love You Forever. She also loves the color blue, pizza, and peanut M &M’s.
