Studying Measurements
Third-graders have been studying measurements involving liquid volume. The students enjoyed estimating and finding the volume of different containers as seen in these photos. They used measuring tools to investigate how much water each container held and they recorded the measurements they found using metric units (liters and milliliters).

Bernie's Book Bank Drive
Student Council is on a mission to ignite a love for reading and giving back! Please donate new or gently used books to the designated boxes near the school gym. Let's spark some friendly competition and see which grade can top the charts by donating the most books! (Our Goal is 500 books!)
Talent Show
Want to be a performer? We are looking for dancers, singers, gymnasts, musicians, martial artists, etc. to show off their talent in the annual Half Day Talent Show on Friday, April 19. Fill out the Talent Show Form by Wednesday, Feb. 21. (No late forms accepted.)
Important Information:
The application must be completed with a parent! Use your school email to sign in!
Each performance is limited to 90 seconds (no exceptions).
Students may only perform in one act.
Due to time constraints, please consider performing in a group.
The talent show is on Friday, April 19.
Rehearsal (required) will take place Tuesday, April 16, or Wednesday, April 17, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. You will be assigned a day.
Yearbook Design Contest
Your yearbook cover design could become part of Half Day school’s history! Designs are due by Monday, Feb. 12. Please follow these directions:
- The yearbook cover designs should be related to our school and may include our mascot, school colors (blue, yellow, and white), students, the school building, class subjects, etc.
- Complete the design on 8 ½” by 11” plain white paper only, using the portrait orientation.
- Include the phrase: Half Day School and 2023-2024.
- Color using crayons, markers, or colored pencils.
- Draw and write by hand (no computer generated images or letters are permitted).
- Write your first name and last name, grade, and teacher’s name on the back of the design in pencil.
Be sure all designs are neat and clean. They should be creative and eye-catching, but easy to read. Lettering should be consistent in size and carefully spaced. Check for correct spelling and capitalization.

Valentine's Day Classroom Parties
Half Day students and staff will celebrate Valentine's Day on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Students may bring valentine cards to school for all of their classmates. Please only send NON-Edible treats to school with your child’s Valentine's Day cards. Our classroom parties for Valentine's Day focus on friendship and exchanging cards with peers and teachers during the day at school. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
Girls on the Run Registration
Families are invited to register their student for the spring Girls on the Run program. Girls on the Run is a 10-week after-school program dedicated to creating a world where every girl activates her limitless potential, engages in physical activities, and learns life lessons. The deadline to register is Monday, March 4. GOTR gets underway in mid-March. For questions, please reach out to Jen Friedman at azjenf@gmail.com. Female coaches are needed. Running experience is not necessary. Register as a coach on the GOTR website.

Families are invited to attend the Learning Fund Foundation's bubble show, which integrates art, science, and a touch of magic from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24. Please register for the event on the foundation's website.
PTO
All Staff Chili Lunch
PTO is celebrating our D103 staff by treating them to a chili and soup luncheon on Friday, Feb. 9, at all three schools. We are looking for volunteers to make a crockpot of chili or soup (your recipe of choice!) for the luncheons. We are looking for at least 10 servings per crock. We would also like to supplement the chili lunch with desserts (again, recipe of your choice!).
We know not everyone is a chef, so if you would prefer to contribute financially, any donation will allow us to provide salads, decor, and all of the "trimmings".
