In this session, we will review our understanding of social emotional learning and how we can incorporate skill building through fiction and nonfiction texts. We integrate trauma-informed practices to explore character development. Participants will have digital access to resources that can grow with their classroom environment needs as well as participate in collaborative breakout rooms.

"When we are mindful of our struggles, and respond to ourselves with compassion, kindness and support in times of difficulty, things start to change" say the authors, Kristen Neff and Christopher Germer. We can learn to embrace our lives despite imperfections inside and out and we can cultivate the strength to thrive. Much research points to the importance of self-compassion to well-being. It seems we need it now more than ever! This 6 month self exploration will use The Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook by Kristen Neff and Christopher Germer as the focus of this book study. It will be structured using Zoom and a Facebook Social Learning Group. Each week a new chapter/focus will be explored. There will be an opening Zoom meeting and then a monthly meeting throughout the book study.

Trauma sensitive mindfulness means we have a thorough understanding of trauma and mindfulness. Bringing these concepts together at the classroom or personal practice level involves understanding how these concepts can complement or conflict with one another depending on application. Join me at this introductory level session to explore ways to make mindfulness work for all populations. We will begin and end the session with example experiential mindfulness practices that embody trauma sensitive mindfulness.

The mindset and skills of SEL are needed now more than ever as we navigate our current world in our own lives and as we educate and support our students, colleagues and our community. This group continues to learn and grow in our efforts to foster SEL and mindfulness practices in our schools and classrooms through modeling of practices in our meetings, sharing of strategies and resources, and exploring a deeper understanding of our own lives in service of others. Dignity for All Students Act (The Dignity Act or DASA) Workshop: Six hour training in Harassment, Bullying, Cyberbullying and Discrimination in Schools: Prevention and Intervention. New York State's Dignity Act seeks to provide the State's public elementary and secondary school students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function. School professionals applying for certification or license on or after DECEMBER 31, 2013 are required to complete six clock hours of course work or training in this area. This training is designed to fulfill that requirement. Tuition is $75.00 for employees of districts which subscribe to the Oswego BOCES School Improvement Co-Ser. Tuition is $100.00 for all other attendees. If you are self-paying, please mail a Money Order or Bank Check made out to CiTi Treasurer. NO CASH please. Join the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and the New York State Council for the Social Studies on October 6th at 7:00 p.m. for a FREE special program on Bringing in Diverse Perspectives when Taking a Look at History. This 90-minute session will focus on K-12 resources and strategies for integrating primary sources from diverse perspectives when discussing key concepts in American history. This session will particularly align with the civic literacy DBQ component of the US History Regents exam, though the strategies discussed will connect with social studies and English Language Arts curricula at all grade levels. This professional learning series will be a year-long, region-wide collaborative for K-6 principals, facilitated by instructional leaders from multiple BOCES. Participants may not be able to attend all sessions. We will keep track of attendance but invite you to join us for as many as you can. Grounded in the science of reading framework, this professional learning opportunity will provide information, direction and support for K-6 principals who are seeking a school-wide approach to lift the overall reading performance of their students.
