Frog Pond Elementary
Volume 5 23-24
Hello Frog Pond Family!
It’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the school year! I am pleased to say that the students have been amazing! Getting to see first hand the collaboration of staff and the teamwork of our students has been a pleasure!
There are some exciting things happening at Frog Pond and more to come. To start the month of February, our 6th Graders have the opportunity for several days in the star lab during their Science classes.
February 15th we will be celebrating the 100th day of school, and we look forward to seeing everyone dressed like they are 100 years old! Our PTO will hold it’s very popular Candy Bar Bingo on Friday, February 23rd. Take a look at our flyer for our upcoming spirit days.
Our positive behavior program continues and the students look forward to collecting tickets based on their good behavior! All of our photos are shared each month in this Frog Pond newsletter and on the Frog Pond Elementary Class Dojo.
Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Thomas P. Denning

News from our Student Government
On January 11, ten of our student government representatives had the chance to tour the police department and meet our mayor and committee. Two of them even got to head up the township meeting! We enjoyed ourselves and learned quite a bit as well. Thank you to Mayor Scibetta and the rest of the committee for allowing us the chance to interact and learn about our town leadership.
Donate Your Old Shoes
Please continue to help our sixth grade by donating sneakers! We accept sneakers in any condition, but the better the condition, the more we can earn. Collection boxes will be in the front school lobby. Thank you for all your support.
The Living History Museum
The Living History Museum was held on January 11th and was a huge success. 35 students put on a presentation for the teachers and students for 5 hours during the day. Over 400 visitors came to the museum during the day and more than 60 visitors in the evening. All the students did a fantastic job. Awards were given out for each grade level that participated. The group with Jack Krier and Rory Krier received best presentation in a mixed grade group; Vincent Saponara got best presentation for 4th grade; the group with Aria Godfrey, Olivia Blackburn, and Charlotte Durborow received best presentation for 5th grade; the group with Addison Griffin, Kylie Jeannotte, and Autumn Townsend received best presentation for 6th grade; a special award was given to Alexis Grace and Sophia Gaboff for school history. Our next event will be the Inventor’s Fair on January 31st.
Learning about Terrapins
Mrs. Martin's class has three turtles in the classroom. They have been told they are really big! The turtles love to eat! It was really hard naming them but they have decided to call them Manny, Moe, and Jack. Since they are being released back into the wild in the Spring, they do not handle the turtles. The students like to feed them. The turtles come to the glass when they see someone standing there. They have been researching terrapin turtles, and noticed that each turtle is unique and their coloring is different. When students are done with work, the turtles are a nice brain break. The students like to watch them swim, eat, and bask under their heat lamp.
Mrs.Costello and Mrs. Randall's STEAM Class
To start the year off on a fun note, Mrs. Costello's classes continued coding Dash and Dot robots using the Blockly App. The students have been given challenges to complete that include using legos and some fun 3D prints. They also had the chance to experiment with our Sphero and Ozobots!
Mrs. Costello and Mrs. Randall are so excited for our 5th-6th Grade Cross-Curricular STEP groups that submitted their ideas to the New Jersey School Boards Association’s STEAM Tank competition. They were just notified that all three teams have advanced to the regional competition!
“The New Jersey School Boards Association congratulates your three teams for being chosen to present in the 2024 Virtual STEAM Tank Challenge Regional competition. The STEAM Tank committee was extremely impressed with your ideas and is excited to see them come to life.”
Congratulations! We will keep you posted on their progress!

The Inventors’ Fair
Students from grades 3-6 participated in the Inventors’ Fair on January 31st. There were 7 amazing creations. The students created their inventions and presentations on their own time. Students and staff came through to get inspired by the inventions during the day and friends and family visited in the evening. An award was given out to the invention that was the most ingenuitive and had the best presentation. This award went to Lance Rizzuto for Helpi. Congratulations to all who participated.
Some quotes from the visitors about the inventions were: “These are so cool!” “Ooh! I want that!” “My mom needs that!” “I need to take a picture of that!” “I want to do this next year!”
STEP Mathlete Competition
The students in grades 3-6 who participate in the math STEP program participated in a math competition for Frog Pond on February 1st. By completing this competition test, they are preparing for the Ocean County Competition.
