FRIDAY FLYER
May 12, 2023
Dear Families,
Congrats to our middle schoolers for their outstanding performances on Wednesday night! You can’t help but be amazed by what Poco kids are capable of. I unfortunately had a family conflict and couldn’t attend, but the halls were buzzing Thursday morning with stories about how incredible they were!
Thursday was highlighted by a visit from the Shakespeare Company of NJ, who performed their version of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” for our 3rd through 8th graders. It was a dynamic event that also included a Q&A session at the end of each of their two shows.
And today was our first schoolwide celebration of Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and what a hit it was! Thank you so much to our parents who came in to share the flavors of India, China, Korea, and more! They even brought in traditional clothing for kids to try on and created a station for learning how to write Chinese characters. It was truly the highlight of every lunch period today.
PLANT SALE EXTENDED TO MAY 16
The online plant sale has become a new twist to a longtime Poco tradition, and we always appreciate your support. All proceeds will go to the Pocantico Hills Garden Program. The Garden Program gives students the opportunity to learn about where their food comes from, how it grows, and what it means to have access to fresh food. In addition to the Plant Sale, the garden hosts two main events during the school year, the Harvest Soup Festival in early October and Salad Day in June. All of the events focus on learning about food and community development. We would love to grow our program to offer more activities throughout the year!
