Bel Aire Principal Newsletter
#15: 2021- 2022 SCHOOL YEAR
Dear Bel Aire Families,
Our practice at Bel Aire is to start the week with a whole school assembly on the lower blacktop, called Monday Morning Meeting. Teachers, students, and coaches are all together, and we have a chance to set the tenor for the week: positivity, gratitude, joy, birthday announcements, and sometimes a review of rules. Once in a while, Mr. Gist plays a few songs on the piano, including the Bel Aire School song. Sometimes Senorita Morphy leads us with stretching and mindful breathing.
For the last two meetings, I've talked to students about wearing masks at school. Specifically, wearing masks is still recommended, and we need to be respectful of each student and family's decision to wear a mask. What does showing respect look like? Not asking people why they are/are not wearing a mask. Not making comments about it. Generally, minding our own business! I want every student to feel safe and that they belong here--students can help make this an inclusive school by respecting the mask-wearing of others.
I encourage you to talk to your little ones (even your "big" little ones, aka 5th graders) about mask-wearing at school as a family. We will continue to follow the county public health guidelines and respect each family's decision.
Regards,
John DiCosmo
Principal
