NEWSLETTER | TERM 4 | WEEK 5 | 9 NOVEMBER 2023
“Dear Lord, we remember the fallen soldiers that
have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
On Remembrance Day, we come to you and ask for healing
for families of lost loved ones and to help the rest of us make sure that
Remembrance Day is more than once a year, but a continual act of gratitude. Amen.”
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are almost at the end of the term. The remaining weeks are very busy and will culminate with the Carols evening and Thanksgiving Mass.
Please keep our Year 3 students in your thoughts and prayers as they make their First Reconciliation this Saturday.
Well done to our Year 6 students on a wonderful last assembly. They were very creative and performed beautifully. I have to say it is very pleasing to see how confidently they spoke and performed, and it was one of the more entertaining assembly items that I have seen. I am sure that there are some budding performers in the making from Year 6. Many thanks to Mrs Daniele and Mrs Ogg for co-ordinating. It is not always easy to prepare the last Year 6 assembly and produce such a high-quality performance.
The School Advisory Council (SAC) ACM was held on Monday evening. At the meeting, the school’s new Strategic Plan was launched by Phil Horner. Many thanks to the parents, staff and students for their involvement in developing it. The SAC members for 2024 are Phil Horner, Hayley Roseby, Esmeralda Soliano, Chloe Gavalas and ex officio are Allen McMahon and Monsignor O’Loughlin.
The P&F held their AGM on Monday night and the Executive for 2024 is Hayley Mitchell, Renee Methorst, Mathew Smith and Gemma Bristow.
A reminder, students will finish this term on Friday, 8 December.
Students will start school in 2024 on Wednesday, 31 January.
God Bless.
Allen McMahon

Remembrance Day
This Friday, 10 November there will be a Remembrance Day liturgy commencing at 9am in Kalyara. Parents are welcome to attend.
Students are welcome to bring in a gold coin donation on Friday morning to receive a red poppy. All proceeds collected will go directly towards the Vic Park / South Perth RSL.
Remembrance Day falls on the 11th of November each year.
On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minutes’ silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation.
In Australia and other allied countries, including New Zealand, Canada and the United States, 11 November became known as Armistice Day – a day to remember those who died in World War One. The day continues to be commemorated in allied countries.
After World War Two, the Australian Government agreed to the United Kingdom’s proposal that Armistice Day be renamed Remembrance Day to commemorate those who were killed in both World Wars. Today the loss of Australian lives from all wars and conflicts is commemorated on Remembrance Day.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
We wish our Reconciliation candidates well as they receive this Sacrament on Saturday, 11 November at St Columba’s Parish, under the guidance of Monsignor O’Loughlin.
Students have been well supported in their preparation, with a Reconciliation Retreat Day scheduled this week. We wish them well as they take this next step in their faith journey.
St Vinnies Christmas Appeal
The Annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal is about to begin, and St Columba’s Primary School is excited to be involved once again.
What is the Vinnies Christmas Appeal?
For many people, Christmas is a joyful time of year however, the sad reality is that 13.3% of Australians are living in poverty. Of these, 731,300 are children who may not get their Christmas wish. Your support can make a difference.
Our generosity through the Vinnies Christmas Appeal can provide urgent relief for a family who’s doing it tough this Christmas and give them hope for a better future.
How does St Columba’s get involved?
St Columba’s is participating in the Vinnie’s Christmas Appeal. We are looking for families to donate non-perishable food items to the baskets in each classroom, which will be used to make up Christmas hampers for those in need.
