A Message from Nurse Catherine
Welcome back families! I am looking forward to another year taking care of your children.
Dr. Nadjarian sent an email yesterday with a link to important health office information. When you get a minute please, take a look at it. It goes over protocols for asthma, allergies and COVID-19. It also includes information on important documents I need to have for your children.
I hope everyone has a nice weekend.
Introducing Mrs. Patricia Salic, Director of Development
It is exciting when one of our St. Mary’s parishioners and parents join our staff. Patricia joins us as our new Director of Development this school year. With over 11 years of fundraising experience, at non-profit organizations such as The American Heart Association, Save the Harbor/Save the Bay and Whitehead Institute, we are delighted to welcome her to the team. As a Brookline resident and parent of Ethan (grade 7) and Marc (grade 6), Patricia enjoys watching her boys’ soccer games, traveling with her family and gardening. Most importantly, Patricia hopes to meet each and every St. Mary’s family in the next few months and take part in the children’s special activities and field trips.
New Cafeteria Tables
A huge thank you to the Town of Brookline for donating our four new cafeteria tables. Our Middle Schoolers got a chance to try them out!
Ice Cream Meet and Greet
We were so happy that so many of our families were able to come out to our student teacher meet and greet on Tuesday! Students were all so excited to meet their teachers for the upcoming year. We had an ice cream truck which helped to make the event even more fun.
Important Update on Drop-Off Policy
The cafeteria and front doors will be locked at 8 a.m. sharp. If your child is dropped off after 8 a.m., please ring the doorbell and enter through the office. Anytime after 8 a.m. is considered tardy and students will receive a tardy pass and be directed to class. For safety reasons, parents are not allowed to enter the building during drop-off.
Pizza Friday!
If you are interested in purchasing Spa Pizza for your child please send in payment in cash by 09/12/2023
We have 11 Fridays in school.
1 slice = $35
2 slices = $65
There will not be a hot lunch option on these days.
EDP Update
We are delighted to welcome you back to the beginning of another school year at St. Mary’s Extended Day Program (EDP)! EDP will begin on Monday, September 11. If you intend to use the program, please ensure you complete and submit the registration form to our school office- all students must be registered before attending the program. The registration fee will be charged to your FACTS account.
Please pack your child(ren) a nut-free snack for EDP. Pick-up is through the cafeteria entrance.
Mark your calendar! Our team has been hard at work preparing for fall after-school clubs. We will email a preview of our fall club offerings on Friday, September 15. Our online registration will take place on Monday, September 18.
Ice Cream Surprise!
Students were treated to a surprise ice cream outside at recess today. Father Bobby brought the cool treats to help beat the heat. We are so thankful!
Grade 2
Students in Miss Connors class participated in a sharing activity called, “Our Class is A Family." Here they shared what it means to relate to their classmates. Second graders stated that this included helping one another, being nice to one another, and treating others how they would like to be treated. They affirmed their understanding by signing their names on the board under these important aspects of being a responsible second grader. Thank you to Father Jonathan who guided students in understanding how to support a family member of a classmate through prayer.
Grade 4
Grade four students participated in a STEM challenge on the first day of school. Each small group received 25 index cards with the goal of building the tallest tower possible. Students communicated their plans while listening to their peers’ ideas before jumping into building. Ms. DeLuca’s scientists problem-solved to create the tallest tower possible in just 7 minutes. Some students folded their index cards, some curved them, others stacked them and some ripped the index cards.
Grades 4+5
Grade 7
Grade 8
Mrs. Bayazid may be new to the St. Mary's team, but she is not new to supporting students, specifically in Catholic schools! She will be working closely with our Grade 8 students throughout the year ensuring that they academic and emotional readiness to excel in high school by providing them with personalized guidance, course selection advice, and emotional support. She will provide them with the skills and confidence needed to navigate this important transition successfully.
