Cape's Mission & Vision
Vision: We believe that the most promising strategy for achieving the mission of Cape Elementary is to develop our capacity to function as a professional learning community.
Message from Ms. Osterholm and Mrs. Sund
Dear Cape Families,
As educators and parents, it's our shared responsibility to empower our children to reach their fullest potential. Through collaboration and open communication with parents, we can effectively support our students' growth and development. Our Cape kids are the best because of our strong partnership.
We want to thank our PTO and parents who supported our Fun Run; it was a huge success! Cape Elementary PTO partners with us financially to provide rewards and helps fund a school-wide SOAR celebration each quarter.
We want to take this opportunity to tell you about the safety protocols that are in place every day here at Cape Elementary:
Officer Ed Schilff from the Cape Coral Police Department is on our campus each day as our School Resource Officer. A replacement SRO is sent when he is off campus.
We have 104 cameras around our campus.
Doors and gates around our school properties are checked routinely by our School Resource Officer, Ed Schilff, throughout the day to ensure that they are securely locked at all times.
We have the OPENGATE weapons detection system which is designed for the automatic screening of students, staff, and visitors who enter onto campus during school hours for Threat Detection. It will also identify other contraband items that are not allowed on school property and a secondary search is conducted if needed.
All visitors must enter through the main office entrance and bring photo identification to all events.
Our office has a video entrance system on the front doors. Visitors will need to present identification to be buzzed into the office.
Our school district has an extensive safety plan that covers multiple situations that could arise. Our teachers are familiar with Cape procedures and protocols when it comes to those plans and participate in training during the school year. Our safety plan is continuously evolving and changing to address different and various situations that could occur.
We maintain a very close relationship with our local law enforcement. They also play a part in monitoring our schools to make certain that our security cannot be breached. They help us do walk-throughs of our buildings. They then provide us with feedback of what we are doing well and areas where we might need improvement.
We conduct monthly drills, which include fire, evacuation, full lockdown and severe weather. We want our staff to know what to do in the event of a real situation.
We will use School Messenger to communicate to parents during an emergency. Please make sure that your contact information is up to date so you receive these notifications.
Please know that our foremost priority is always the health and safety of our students and staff. We share the concerns of the community, and we want you to be able to feel safe when your children are here with us. When it comes to the safety of our children, there can be no compromise.
Cape Elementary is a special place to work. We are extremely thankful for our parents, students and staff. Please call or email us if you have any questions or concerns. We are happy to assist in any way we can.
Sincerely,
Ms. Osterholm and Mrs. Sund

PTO News!
Thank you to everyone who supported our Fun Run this year. We were able to raise $9,928 to put towards additional playground equipment! Prize winners will be announced on the morning news in the upcoming weeks.
The Valentine Gram sale was a hit! Huge thanks to our volunteers who spent a Sunday helping put all the orders together. All the students and teachers loved receiving something special.
Our annual Spring Fling Carnival is quickly approaching (Friday April 19th) and we could not be more excited! We have been busy at work securing items for the silent auction and reserving fun activities such as inflatables, Wipeout and the rock-climbing wall! We’re also working on adding additional activities this year to help keep those lines shorter! Keep an eye out for wristband and ticket sales.
Speaking of the Spring Fling Carnival...WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! Please reach out if you're able to lend a hand with auction item donation, set up, planning, or running activities. Also keep an eye out for volunteer sign-ups on our PTBoard.
The next PTO/SAC meeting will be Wednesday March 6th at 6pm. If you are interested in joining the PTO for the next school year, please plan on attending. We hope to see you there!

Refresher from your Cape Elementary PBIS Team!
Cape Elementary is a Positive Behavior Interventions and Support School (PBIS). Each morning, our students recite our school-wide SOAR expectations. Each letter of the acronym SOAR stands for an expectation. A Cape student always…
Stays focused and sets goals
Observes safety rules
Aspires to be an outstanding citizen and team player
Remembers to be responsible and respectful
Students who consistently follow the SOAR expectations earn Cape-ables and LiveSchool points, which can be used to purchase rewards at our Cape-able Store. Rewards and consequences teach our students to work hard and learn from mistakes. Cape Elementary PTO partners with us financially to provide rewards and helps fund a school-wide SOAR celebration each quarter. Cape Elementary is consistently recognized as a Florida PBIS model school for our team and school approach to positive discipline and exemplary discipline outcomes. Please join with us as we encourage our students to keep SOARing all the way through their years here at Cape Elementary and beyond. Once a Cape kid, always a Cape kid.
