THE WOODBURN SCHOOL DISTRICT PROMISE
It's hard to believe we are already nine weeks into the 23-24 school year! We've enjoyed fall sports season, parent nights, outdoor school, homecoming and many other amazing activities. Thanks to all the students, staff, parents, and volunteers who have helped ensure that our students have these opportunities.

PBIS: From Home To School, Helping Kids Make Good Choices
Woodburn School District is a Positive Behavioral Support and Intervention (PBIS) District. We utilize PBIS systems, supports, and strategies to help staff and students feel safe and connected. Positive "Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students' behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social-emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also improves teacher health and well-being. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives." (pbis.org)
PBIS emphasizes five interrelated elements: Equity, Systems, Data, Practices, and Outcomes. These elements ask us to reflect on key questions:
- EQUITY: How can we enhance the experiences and outcomes of each educator and student?
- SYSTEMS: What can we do to sustain our implementation over the long haul?
- PRACTICES: How will we support our students' behavioral, social, emotional, and academic growth?
- OUTCOMES: What is important to each of our communities?
PBIS is based on a tiered framework. We provide a continuum of academic, behavioral, social, and emotional support matched to students' needs.
- TIER 1: Universal, Primary Prevention (ALL)
- TIER 2: Targeted, Secondary Prevention (SOME),
- TIER 3: Intensive and Individualized, Tertiary Prevention (FEW)
The graphics below visually represent the tiered system. Please click on each Tier to learn more about them.
PBIS also provides a framework for parents. "Supporting Families with PBIS At Home" is a resource that can help families support their students' social and emotional health and minimize behavioral disruptions at home. (Click on the image for more information.)

SCHOOL SAFETY: Standard Response Protocol (SRP)
Woodburn School District utilizes the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) as the process for how to respond during emergency situations. You will see SRP posters in all classrooms, and throughout our buildings. SRP is a uniform, planned, and practiced response to any incident and is the foundation of a safe school. This foundation allows, students, staff, parents, and first responders the ability to navigate an emergency situation using common language and expectations. The standardized vocabulary helps give all stakeholders the ability to understand and respond during a time of emergency.
The Standard Response Protocol is based on five specific actions that can be performed during an incident:
- HOLD: Hold is followed by the directive: "In your room or area" and is the protocol used when hallways need to be kept clear of occupants.
- SECURE: Secure is followed by the directive: "Get inside. Lock outside doors" and is the protocol used to safeguard people within the building.
- LOCKDOWN: Lockdown is followed by "Locks, lights, out of sight" and is the protocol used to secure individual rooms and keep occupants quiet and in place.
- EVACUATE: Evacuate may be followed by a location, and is used to move people from one location to a different location in or out of the building.
- SHELTER: Shelter is always followed by the hazard and a safety strategy and is the protocol for group and self-protection.
Thank you for your partnership as we strive to make our schools a safe place for all. Thank you for looking out for each other. Please remember, if you see or hear something, say something.
