A message from the principal
It is so hard to believe we are in the final weeks of the school year. MCA testing is wrapping up, the greenhouse is loaded with beautiful plants and spring field trips are in full swing. Our Specialty Night is just around the corner, as is Track & Field. What an exciting time of year!
I want to extend my gratitude to our staff and students for their incredible response to the unsettling event we experienced last week. Our staff acted swiftly, remained calm and supported students each and every step of the way. Students did a wonderful job following directions and staying with their safe adults. Thank you, also, to our families for your patience and understanding as we navigated the events of the day and communicated as we were able. Please know that the safety and well-being of our students was our highest priority. Our staff is incredibly grateful to Principal Mike George and his entire school team for welcoming our young students with smiles and high-fives, and supporting us well beyond their school day. Having spent my entire professional career on the Anoka County side of the district, I had often heard that being on this side of the river is like being a part of one big family. I certainly experienced that first-hand last week. What a fantastic community, indeed!
Have a safe and wonderful weekend!

CBPA named a winner in Trex Plastic Recycling Challenge
I am delighted to announce that our school has won a beautiful bench made from recycled materials, and a $500 prize in the 16th Annual Trex® Plastic Film Recycling Challenge! CBPA collected more than 4,500 pounds of plastic for recycling this year! This fantastic achievement is a testament to our school's commitment to sustainability and good environmental stewardship. Our students, staff, and community members worked hard to collect plastic bags and films to be recycled into something new and useful, and we are thrilled to be recognized for our efforts. This win will encourage us to continue our work in creating a more eco-friendly environment and inspire others to do the same. Thank you for participating! Learn more about the program at www.recycle2win.com
Are we done collecting? No way! Please keep bringing your plastic bags and films in, we will keep collecting and reporting our totals. Would you like to help? We are looking for support in processing the plastic! Volunteers would be asked to pick up the plastic whenever it's full and bring to a local Cub Foods location. This is a perfect volunteer opportunity for families with students in A+ or parent pick up. Contact Katie Maas if you're interested in learning more! katie.maas@cbpapto.org

Spotlight on Lyme Disease
Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection that can be transmitted to a person from a bite of an infected deer tick. Not all deer ticks carry diseases.
Symptoms of Lyme Disease
Fever, chills, headache, fatigue, pain or stiff joints and muscles, weakness and/or ring-shaped rash
Preventing Tick Bites
Apply insect repellent (should contain 20 to 30% DEET) and/or Permethrin to clothing, avoid wooded and bushy areas, wear long sleeves and pants, brush off clothing and pets before going indoors, bathe or shower as soon as possible after coming indoors.
Improper removal of ticks greatly increases the risk of acquiring tick-borne infections. Squeezing the tick or putting substances on the tick to try to make it "back out" may aggravate it enough that it injects into you whatever disease organisms are inside it.
Always see a physician for possible diagnosis, testing, and treatment
