This message applies to Chopticon ninth, tenth, and eleventh-grade students (including those who attend Fairlead or the Virtual Academies. The PSAT/NMSQT exam will take place at Chopticon High School on Wednesday, October 25.
Students should:
- Arrive on time to school as testing will begin promptly at 8:00 am
- Bring a fully charged laptop - the test is digital and will take approximately 2 1/2 hours with extended time for students who qualify for accommodations.
- Student cell phones must be powered off during the test and kept in the student's backpack.
This exam measures what students learn in school, determines if students are on track for college success, and opens doors for opportunities to prepare for college.
Students will be allowed to enter the building starting at 7:45 am. Students' names and room locations will be posted around the school starting Monday, October 23. Students should check the alphabetized list so that they will know their test location before Wednesday.
Please feel free to contact the assistant principal, Dr. Smith, at vhsmith@smcps.org with any questions or concerns.
Senior Day Activities - Wednesday, October 25
Senior Day will take place on Wednesday, October 25th, while the underclassmen take the PSAT. Please see below for the itinerary for the day so you know what is expected and offered.
8:00 am -All seniors report to the stadium to sign in by last name -- this is how we will take attendance. Students should not enter the school as testing is being administered. (If the weather does not permit this, a follow-up email will be sent with further instructions.)
Immediately after signing in, please report to the bleachers and wait for instructions. Teachers will be there to assist and direct you.
The senior panoramic photo, when students stand in the shape of 2 - 4 on the football field, will take place once all students are checked in and directions have been given(8:15-8:30ish).
After the panoramic photo is taken, students will sit on the bleachers for a brief "assembly" regarding senior information and what is offered the rest of the day, as presented by their senior class officers.
After announcements, students will RETURN to the top of the stadium/tennis courts where stations will be set up for everything offered to students. Each station will have a table (or multiple tables) and a sign indicating what is there.
For more information, review this document.

Impact Aid Form - Parents/Guardians - Please Complete
Our schools are heavily impacted by federally connected students – those parents/guardians who work on federal property in Maryland, live on federal property in Maryland, and/or are active duty military personnel. Because of this impact, we receive federal grant funds to operate and maintain our schools and enrich school programs. To receive these funds, the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) requires us to survey each student to determine eligibility.
Thank you if your have already completed this form. SMCPS is encouraging all parents/guardians to please take the time to access and complete the Impact Aid Survey Form online, located in the Home Access Center (HAC).
