A Note from the Principal
Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that 2023 is here. It is a great time to reflect on all the wonderful accomplishments of our students in the first semester and set goals for the rest of the school year. We are looking forward to a wonderful second semester.
Sincerely,
Valerie Harari
Principal

Ocelot Reminders
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Safety of all students and staff remains our number one priority. To assist with this, please remember that the side loop is for busses, daycare vans, and those dropping off students with a visible disabled placard who require parent assistance to enter the building. All others should go through the main car line. The parking spaces in the side lot are designated for staff members. Please utilize the front lot when you need to park and walk students into the building. Also, please be mindful of homeowners in the neighborhoods as we have had many reach out with concerns of parked cars blocking driveways and streets.
Late Arrivals
Any student who arrives after the 7:35 bell will need to be checked in to the front office by a parent or guardian. When the bell rings, the gate on the side of the building will be closed and a sign will be posted letting you know that you will need to park and check your child in to the office.
Parking Information
As we continue to grow, our parking lots are getting full. The side lot is designated staff parking. Visitors and those who need to park to bring students into the building should use the front lot. Please keep in mind that designated disabled parking spots are only to be used by individuals who have a visible disabled placard or license plate. All others will be asked to move their vehicle.
Dress Code
Students and parents may determine personal attire and grooming standards, provided they comply with the district guidelines. These guidelines will be strictly enforced by all Oak Creek staff members. Students who are not in compliance with the district guidelines will be required to change. The full student dress code can be found here.
Please note:
- Hairstyles/color should be appropriate
- Accessories depicting animal-like characteristics are not allowed
- Shorts, skirts and dresses should be no shorter than mid-thigh
- Hats and hoods are not allowed to be worn in the building
- Temporary tattoos and body painting is to be covered or removed
Electronic Devices: Phones and Smart Watches
As noted in the District Handbook, electronic devices are to be turned off and stored in backpacks during the school day.
1st offense: Reminder
2nd offense: Device held by teacher for parent pick-up
Allergy Friendly Lunch Tables
We have students with severe food allergies who need access to an allergy friendly table at lunch. These tables are marked in the cafeteria and in the hallway at large events. Please only use these tables if you are needing access to an allergy friendly seating area.
Oak Creek One Pager
This year we have our Oak Creek one pager. This is a one stop shop for important information that you may need throughout the year such as district safety protocols, background check information, and and free/reduced lunch just to name a few. By clicking here you will be directed to both pages of the one pager.
A Note From Mrs. Trump
Please use the Signup Genius to select the day(s) you would like to volunteer to be a Hallway Hero. Remember to tell me what times you are available and if there is something specific I need to know when creating your schedule. For example, I am available from 7:15-10:00 and would only like to do safety checks or I am available from 7:15-3:30 and would love to help in any way possible. Please email Danielle.Trump@comalisd.org if you have any questions.
January Events
5th Grade Visit to CMS
We are so excited for our 5th grade students to visit Canyon Middle School on Friday, January 6 for the Elective Fair. If you have not returned your child's permission slip, please be sure to send it Friday morning.
Comal Reads
Each year in Comal ISD we encourage students to participate in Comal Reads. This is when all of the families in the district read a book together at home at the same time. This year's book is Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate. Families will begin reading next Monday, January 9th.
Attached you will find activities that go along with the story for your family to participate in if you would like.
We hope you will join us in reading Crenshaw.
Mrs. Winkler
Kindness Week
Students at Oak Creek will be participating in "The Great Kindness Challenge" through January 27th. Below, you will find a card with actions that promote kindness. Each student will also get a copy of this card on Monday, January 9. We challenge all students to complete the squares on the card and turn it back to your teacher by January 27th. The grade with the most completed cards will win a popcorn party provided by PTA.

School will be closed on this day in observance of MLK Day.
