Math Challenge
You can print the math packet at home: https://www.mathinaction.org/neshaminy-sd-elementary.html . Click the blue button that says “Current Math Challenge" and then print. Answers are available on this site after the due date.
Students can also pick up a copy of the math challenge at school.
When the students are finished with the packet (there are different numbers of problems required for each grade level), they can turn them in the designated bins or to the office by the due date.
Square One Art Fundraiser
In the Art room students are learning about lines. They are creating self-portraits for the upcoming Square One fundraiser. This fundraiser allows you to purchase your child’s art work on various items such as blankets, towels, mugs, necklaces… there are so many options. We hope you will participate in the event.
Below is an example of some artwork that the third graders have been working on!

Chance
Mrs. Deeken and Chance met Mrs. Hanna's students for the first time this year! Mrs. Deeken shared her newest book with us.
Fun with Science
Second grade conducted a pepper germs experiment! Students poured pepper over a bowl of water and stuck their finger into it. All of the pepper germs stuck to their finger. Next, students applied hand soap to their finger and stuck it into the water a second time. They were amazed as the pepper shot away from their finger and to the edge of the bowl. We learned the importance of washing our hands properly to avoid getting sick. Awesome job super scientists!
Little Engineers
The third grade parents and guardians had some fun on Back to School Night “graffitiing” the third grade bulletin boards! Messages and drawings were created on the boards for the students to find the next morning.
Flashlight Fridays
Students in B206 participate to Flashlight Fridays. They read by flashlight while waiting for their busses to be called during dismissal.
Ms. McHugh
The students in Ms. McHugh's class had the opportunity to witness the emergence of a black swallowtail butterfly. After naming her September, the students excitedly watched as she became part of the outside world.

Title I
You're invited to this year's Title I Parent Meeting! Please join us Monday, October 3rd either in person at 10:00am or virtually at 7:00pm to learn about Neshaminy's federal programming and give your input into Tawanka's parent involvement and schoolwide plan.
Light refreshments will be served during the in person meeting. Click here to sign up. We hope to see you there!
Free & Reduced Lunch
Beginning Monday, October 3rd, breakfast will be free of charge to all students at Neshaminy School district. Though the pandemic-era Federal program that made school meals free for all students has ended, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has appropriated funds to ensure that all students can enjoy a free breakfast at least through the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
The daily cost for lunch is $2.80 in elementary schools for this school year. Payments for school meals can be made with cash, check, or through our online payment service, School Cafe (www.schoolcafe.com).
Applications for the Free & Reduced Meal Program at Neshaminy should also be completed on the School Cafe website or on their mobile app (available for iOS and Android). Families must fill out a new application every school year to maintain eligibility.

AHERA Notice
Neshaminy School District has engaged Eagle Industrial Hygiene Assoc., Inc., to fulfill the requirements of the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), 40 CFR Part 763, Subpart E. This law requires that each Local Education Authority (LEA) engage EPA accredited individuals to initially inspect and subsequently reinspect every three years all student and staff accessed areas for the presence of both friable and non-friable asbestos containing materials (ACM) and to develop an Asbestos Management Plan from the information developed from the building inspections. All areas of our facilities were inspected for asbestos containing
materials.
The Management Plan provides a description of the amount, type, location and condition of all ACM found in these areas. The Plan also contains a detailed schedule of responses and activities for handling the ACM. The Management Plan is available for review by interested parents, faculty and staff in all school offices during business hours.

Safety of all students and staff is a top priority at Tawanka, so we have strict safety procedures in place. A reminder of the following:
Early Dismissals: Please notify the teacher if your child will be picked up early. If being picked up by someone other than a parent/guardian, please specify who will be picking up your child. Students will only be released to individuals listed on the emergency card, but the office must be notified prior to pick-up. Students must be signed out in the main office. Again, driver's license or state issued ID is required to pick up a student. We strongly encourage early dismissals be no later than 3:00 pm.
