Teachers at three Reynoldsburg City Schools will be awarded a total of $32,500 to expand STEM learning projects through Ohio STEM Learning Network Classroom Grant Program, funded by Battelle.
New State Requirement: Child Sexual Abuse, Dating Violence and Sexual Violence Prevention
Beginning this school year, all Ohio schools are required to provide developmentally appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention, dating violence, and sexual violence prevention to kindergarten through 12th grade students.
Reynoldsburg City Schools will provide the required instruction beginning in the second semester between January and May 2024.
Standards-Based Grading and Report Cards
At Reynoldsburg City Schools, we are committed to providing an academically challenging environment where all students can achieve their full potential. Part of fulfilling this commitment has included using standards-based grading and standards-based report cards at the elementary level and standards-based grading at the secondary level. All levels provide students and parents specific, timely and actionable feedback through mastery grading.
What is Mastery Grading?
Mastery grading is an approach to grading that allows learners the time and flexibility to focus on mastery of learning standards and skills. This grading practice allows a student multiple opportunities to learn and show what they have learned by the end of the grading period. In this way, mastery grading is unlike traditional grading practices where grades/scores are simply averaged over the course of a grading period, which can mask what a student has learned, or not learned, in a specific course or class. To report on mastery, teachers link evidence of student learning to standards. Teachers look at the most recent evidence of learning that reflects the student's present performance on that standard, rather than an average of student's grades throughout the quarter.
Portrait of a Graduate Competencies
Reynoldsburg City Schools Portrait of a Graduate is our vision for 21st century learning, focusing on five competencies students need to be successful at school and in life. The competencies are: INNOVATIVE PROBLEM SOLVER, SOCIALLY & EMOTIONALLY COMPETENT, EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR, COLLABORATOR, and CULTURALLY AWARE & A GLOBAL CITIZEN.
All of the competencies are measured and reported on report cards.
Please see the links below for each level for more detailed information on RCS grading and reporting.
