Cedar Hill Football To Visit Arlington Martin Warriors
"There was kind of a domino effect with our mistakes, and Rockwall is not the type of team where you can make mistakes and expect to beat them," Cedar Hill head football coach Nick Ward said. "We have to build our kids' confidence, and it's a process."
The defending 6A-8 Champions finished 10-2 last season, including a 44-6 win at Cedar Hill last September.
Friday will be a matchup of two first-year head coaches looking for their first victory - Nick Ward (Cedar Hill) and Chad Rives (Martin).
Against Rockwall, senior Zhaiylen Scott - a highly recruited defensive end - scored two of the Longhorns' three touchdowns. They were the first offensive touchdowns of his career. Scott had six carries for 39 yards - about one-fifth of the Longhorns' 203 rushing yards. Cedar Hill outgained the Yellowjackets, 202-163 on the ground but were outgained 378-231, overall.
Cedederick Castleberry led nine Longhorn ballcarriers with 10 carries for 56 years, Zaccai Dotson had six carries for 41 yards. and quarterback Jaylon Thomas -- a transfer from Mesquite Horn -- had 10 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown in his Cedar Hill debut. Ward said he has confidence in Thomas as the Longhorns' starting quarterback.
Cedar Hill forced two turnovers in the loss but gave the ball up five times.
Returning to Choctaw Stadium
It will be Cedar Hill's first game in the City of Arlington, since the Longhorns defeated Tyler Legacy, 21-7, in the second round of the 2021 State Playoffs on November 20, 2021.
While Cedar Hill is playing Martin, the Texas Rangers will host the Minnesota Twins next door at Globe Life Field.

Meet The Warriors
Martin scored a 39-31 victory over Lake Travis in in the 2022 season opener, but the Warriors fell to the Cavaliers, 13-6, in the season opener, last week. It was only the third time in their past 13 games that the Warriors scored fewer than 30 points.
Travis outgained Martin, 408-174. Martin quarterback Tristan Bittle threw for a touchdown pass on his only passing attempt - a 52-yard connection with Brody Williams in the third quarter. The Cavaliers responded with 13 points in the fourth quarter.
"It's no different than playing a Rockwall," Cedar Hill head football coach Nick Ward said. "Martin has a little more tradition than Rockwall. We have to be able to step up to the challenge no matter who it is."
