Credit Recovery Opportunities for Spring Semester

• The purpose of credit recovery is to provide high school students with an opportunity to recover credit for selected courses previously attempted and failed with a grade between a 50 – 69 %.
• The course is designed for students to complete with limited or NO assistance from a local school monitor or teacher.
• Students must attend in person after school from 2:40 pm - 5:40 pm on the designated days for the session.
• If they finish before the session ends, then they do not have to stay after school.
• Students may work on their course anytime. This means they can work on it at home, before school, during lunch, or anytime it is convenient.
• Again, they must report to the assigned room the week they have signed up for, until it is completed.

• Our next credit recovery session is scheduled for Monday, March 18 to Friday, March 22.

• Students must see their assigned counselor to register for credit recovery.

Scholastic Images

Scholastic Images will be on campus at Berkmar on Wednesday, February 28th during lunch, so don’t miss out placing your orders for:

• Letter Jacket Orders for any student who has earned a letter!
• Bring proof that you earned your letter (actual award letter or certificate) and a $100 deposit to get the order started! CURRENT SENIORS MUST PAY IN FULL FOR THEIR LETTER JACKET AT TIME OF PURCHASE.
• Class Ring Orders for any junior or senior!
• Bring payment in full for the Mascot Ring Special ($332.95)!
• Bring $100 deposit for Ultrium metal or $200 deposit for all other metals!
• Seniors, make sure to order your Cap & Gown package ASAP!

Mr. and Miss Berkmar Pageant

Friday, March 8

The 2024 Mr. and Miss Berkmar Pageant will be on Friday, March 8, 2024, in the Alison Crossman Performing Arts Center. Students interested in being a contestant need to stop by Dr. Huff's classroom (1.172) to pick up pageant entry forms.

There is an informational session on Wednesday, February 28 from 2:30 until 3 for all contestants and anyone wishing to become a contestant. There will be two rehearsals prior to the pageant. They will be March 6 & 7 from 2:30 until 4:00 PM.

ASVAB Test

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) will be administered on Wednesday, March 6th in the media center. This test is for students in grades 10-12 interested in the Military or for career exploration purposes. Study materials can be found on Military.com and in the Berkmar media center. Sign up for testing here. Please be on time for testing. Contact Dr. Hunter with any questions.

Educational Tips For Parents

Prescription Drugs, a Gateway Drug

In recent years, prescription drug abuse has exploded in popularity. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, about 52 million Americans aged 12 and older have used prescription drugs non-medically in their lifetime. Opioids are the most abused prescription drugs and the statistics only get worse. The Drug Rehab website says opioid users are 40 times more likely to abuse heroin than non-users. Nearly half of young heroin users surveyed in three studies reported abusing prescription opioids first. Another prescription medication, Ritalin, has been linked to cocaine use because both are stimulants that increase alertness and productivity.

The Educational Effectiveness Survey (EES) isn’t just for students. Families, we need your input to improve your student’s experience and your school’s performance. Parents can fill out the 2023-24 Educational Effectiveness Family Survey here. It will take about 10 minutes, and provide valuable information that informs the leaders at your child’s school and at the district level. The survey and is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese. Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Parent Mentors Present: “Preparing for the Annual GCPS Transition Fair”

This session is highly recommended for parents of students at all levels (elementary, middle, and high school). The Annual GCPS Transition Fair will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024. Parents will learn how to navigate the upcoming GCPS Transition Fair to maximize access to resources that are appropriate for their child. This session will equip and empower parents to take the next steps in planning for their child’s future.

Warming Stations

Warming Station season is here. Gwinnett County is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents, especially during the colder months. When overnight temperatures reach 35 degrees or below, the stations will operate from 6:00pm to 7:00am.
