What's going on in Phys Ed?
November 2023
Hoover Elementary
During the month or November we continue to work on various manipulative skills. Kindergarten are continuing to work on stepping in opposition with skills such a rolling, underhand tossing, and overhand throwing. They will be learning a school wide favorite game called 3 PIN. As well as working on general coordination skills and balance. Kindergarten does not receive grades for specials but they are assessed on their general movement skills and concepts which we call physical literacy.
Grades 1-2 have been practicing some basic soccer skills and playing in soccer mini games. They will soon be going on a turkey hunt where they practice throwing at moving targets (turkeys)! Grades are posted and conferences are coming up so if you want to meet or chat about anything specifics related to your child or our phys ed program please sign up.
I will be at Hoover on Monday 11/20 for conferences.
Eisenhower Elementary
Grades 3-5 are also working on manipulative skills. We have practiced our striking skills with pickle-ball paddles. We will also be practicing striking in a floor hockey style game called pillow polo. The students love these activities. Additionally as part of a health lesson we are reviewing food groups and better understanding what calories are and how what we eat impacts our health.
Grades are posted and conferences are coming up so if you want to meet or chat about anything specific to your child or our phys ed program please sign up. I will be at Eisenhower on 11/16.
Apple Crunch Day
At the end of October both Hoover and Eisenhower participated in Apple Crunch Day. This was an event to celebrate healthy eating. Representatives from Penn State Pro Wellness came and brought some locally grown apples for the students to try. Each student got to try a Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, and a Honeycrisp apple.
