Important Updates
NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORT
We are excited to announce that SOCCER has just been added in our phase two of adding middle school sports at TNS! This includes Girls Soccer in the spring season of the 2023-24 school year (this year) and Boys Soccer in the fall season of the 2024-25 school year (next year). Soccer was selected due to the high interest and the ability to use/create a new field between TNS & BDHS. This is our first outdoor sport added and joins the basketball, wrestling, and volleyball we added for the first time last year.
We will be sending out an interest survey and more information for Girls Soccer as we roll this out. Central office is helping us with starting this new program, but we will also need parent support to make this happen. If you are interested in supporting, please email Dr. Jacks at jacksam@pwcs.edu.

TNS ANGEL TREE & HOLIDAY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Dear TNS Families,
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the holiday season. I am pleased to announce the third annual TNS Angel Tree and Holiday Assistance program to serve TNS students, their siblings and families in need of assistance during the winter break. This year we would like to offer sponsorship opportunities to our TNS Parents.
I am delighted to share that the TNS Staff, the Nokesville United Methodist Church and the Nokesville Church of the Brethren have already sponsored students in support of the program. Their generosity is a testament to the spirit of giving that defines this season. We are sending this out to parents as well in case you would also like to help out this winter.
There are three ways to sponsor:
Go to the Sign-Up Genius to find the list of children and their four wishes, and/or to pledge a gift or food gift certificate. Gifts will be due December 15th to Heather Moul, TNS School Social Worker via the Front Office or Ms. Moul's office located in the MS Counseling Suite.
If you would like to sponsor a child but don’t have the time, you can also provide a gift card in any amount from Target or Walmart which will be used to buy gifts for any non-sponsored students/siblings. Please turn these into Heather Moul, TNS School Social Worker, via the Front Office or Ms. Moul's office located in the MS Counseling Suite as soon as possible.
You can also pledge a food gift card (suggestions are: Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Safeway, Giant, Harris Teeter, or Wegmans) each card totaling no more than $25 which can be turned in anytime before December 15th to Heather Moul, TNS School Social Worker via the Front Office or Ms. Moul's office located in the MS Counseling Suite.
Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of our students.
Please consider participating in this wonderful initiative. Your support can bring joy and warmth to a child's holiday season. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

TNS School Social Worker

PARENT SUPPORT
Thank you for all the parent support this week! We had families in as Tiger Task Force, having lunch with students, helping in classrooms, and our PTO not only decorated our doors with holiday spirit, but they also started a new program to support teachers for lessons called "Copycats." Our school is so much better when we work together!
DECEMBER SPIRIT DAYS
Please look for an update soon on special spirit days in December. We are going to continue to help make TNS a special place for kids and brightening up the dark winter days with special theme days!
Reminders
Parent Safety Survey
The information below was also sent out earlier in a separate email on 11/28/23.
As you may know, as part of our TNS Continuous Improvement Plan, we are working towards improving the actual level of safety and the perception that parents and guardians have of the safety in our school. Part of that plan is to send out an update and a survey to learn more about how we are doing.
Safety Improvements
This year, we have implemented new supports including staff and programs. We also continued the efforts we were already adding to improve safety at TNS. Some examples of these improvements are below:
Added the Evolv security screening for student arrival and for visitors during the school day
Hired a new full-time Security Assistant
Added a Community Safety Officer during arrival
Created a new monitoring tracker for administration and security response rates of disciplinary incidents. Our current response rate of an average of 2.6 days for the resolution of all disciplinary incidents.
Installed a new repeater to add more power and extended range for our staff 2-way radios
Added new high-definition interior and exterior security cameras
Increased lunch supervision using additional cafeteria hostesses and security
Created staff, parents, and middle-level student handbooks
Conducted quarterly behavior assemblies for elementary and middle-level students
Continued conducting exterior doors, interior doors, and perimeter checks multiple times per day
Continued high visibility of staff for students using orange safety vests during arrival, dismissal, recess, and outside physical education
Continued conducting regular evacuation, lockdown, and other mandatory drills
Continued the TNS Discipline Task Force with quarterly meetings and review of safety and discipline procedures
Continued Tiger Task Force having parent volunteers in school during the day
Parent/Guardian Survey
Please let us know how you feel about these efforts to improve safety by taking this brief survey. This survey was created by PWCS and is focused just on the safety domain. It is anonymous, brief, and should only take about five minutes to complete.
Parent Perception of Child's School Safety - Survey
This survey is now live and will be open through Friday, December 8th. The survey results will be specific to our school and we would really appreciate you taking the time to fill this out. We will be sharing and using this information in our upcoming Discipline Task Force meeting on December 12th. We will also share the information with families in a newsletter and with staff in meetings.
