MMA Media Center
Winter 2022/2023
What's Happening in the Media Center?
Reading! Lots of it! Our Eagle Readers are really logging the minutes on Beanstack, the new CCSD Reading App in Clever. So far MMA has logged 47,000+ minutes. Our top readers in October were Jamari Alston, Carielle Grant, and Gladys Palomino Azurza! The lead keeps changing each week between the 8th, 7th, and 6th graders. Who will end up in the lead? A Chick-Fil-A party is happening for our top readers on December 9th, so stay tuned!

So many Vampires!
The History of Vampires, Count Dracula & Bram Stoker
October is for Monsters
The 8th grade ELA classes have been reading about supernatural beings and studying Latin America Folklore. Ms. Heyward's classes, Ms. Jenkin's fourth block class, and Ms. Lowman's honors class came to the Media Center for a lesson on the history of vampires. They learned about the Irish author, Bram Stoker, and got to watch some film clips from Dracula in 1931. Students learned all about Count Dracula, and Transylvania (yes, it exists), and even draw and name their own vampires. When you get a chance, take a peek at their creativity in the library.
Rick Riordan, Author of Percy Jackson Series, is Pretty Awesome
And so are our 6th graders! Mr. McCann's 6th grade ELA classes learned about the man behind the words they've been reading - Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief - when Mrs. Eisen came to their class in November. Students learned about Riordan (Ryer-dan) and his writing inspiration - his son, got some writing tips from the man himself in a taped video, and began designing their own super-heroes and demi-gods. It was an epic journey of a class!
New Chromebooks!
All students using older Chromebooks received newer, upgraded models to use in November!
