Fall Parade and Parties!
On Friday, October 27th, we held our annual fall parade, followed by fall parties. Thank you to all the families who braved the Overlook parking lot to attend! We had a special guest, Ms. Simpson, who stopped down to visit with a few of our former staff members at the Grizzly Academy. The parties were a huge hit, thanks to the planning of the PTO and room ambassadors, and the treats and snacks provided by volunteers.

Overlook October Board Student of the Month
Emma Meisterics is a 4th grade student at Overlook Elementary. Her parents are John and Brooke. She has a brother Aiden in 9th grade at Wadsworth High School and a sister Madison in 7th grade at Wadsworth Middle School.
Mrs. Bennett and Mrs. Pecnik are Emma’s 4th-grade teachers. This is what they had to say… “Emma has been a leader since day one of 4th grade. She comes to school each day ready to learn and does so with enthusiasm. She always has a smile on her face. Emma participates actively in class and always adds to classroom discussions. She is willing to help a friend and her teachers. In addition to being a leader in the classroom, Emma is also a leader in the building. She helps our preschool students in the morning and is on the announcements team. We appreciate her positive attitude and the example she sets for others."
At school, Emma likes math, especially word problems. She states: “they are fun.” She is enjoying learning all the “tricks” to multiplying large numbers. She also loves to write. She especially likes creative writing and making up her own stories. Her favorite book is “Augie and Me: Three Wonder Stories.”
Away from school, Emma enjoys playing soccer and riding her bike. She supports her brother and sister by attending their football and volleyball games. She loves to eat Mexican food but her favorite food is Crab Legs. That makes sense since her favorite vacation destination is Oak Island in North Carolina. She is a huge fan of the beach and shared memories of playing volleyball, cornhole, and sitting on her knees in the ocean searching for shells.
So it is with great pleasure and pride that I present Emma Meisterics as the Overlook October Board Student of the Month!
Congratulations!
Salvation Army Food Drive
Last year’s Salvation food drive was a huge success! The Salvation Army was able to use the money collected to buy food in bulk to support our local community. This year, we will have a similar food drive. Instead of students collecting food items, we will have a money drive in our building, and we’ll donate it to the Salvation Army of Wadsworth. It is reasonable that for every $1.00 collected, the Army can purchase three cans of food with their purchasing power. A $1,000 collection represents 3,000 food items!
This year we will be having our donation drive during Kindness Week November 13th-17th. More details to come!
Character Strong Program at Overlook
Dear Overlook Familes,
We are thankful for you being part of our school community! The world is changing quickly and we want to do everything we can to help students be successful in school and life.
We are excited to tell you that we will be using a program called PurposeFull People this year. This program teaches skills that will help students be successful in school and in life.
We believe that students should have safe, predictable places to learn where they feel included. Students should have healthy and helpful connections with teachers and classmates. They should also experience learning that will help them tackle challenges inside and outside of school. PurposeFull People is more than a set of lessons - it is a partnership between schools and families to create a place where students feel like they belong and learn skills that will help them be the best they can be!
Purposefull People has three main goals for students: Be Kind, Be Strong, and Be Well.
● Be Kind: Social skills like listening, friendship, solving conflicts, and leadership. These skills are taught alongside Empathy, Respect, & Cooperation
● Be Strong: Skills that help students focus, stay organized, and set goals. These skills are taught alongside Responsibility, Courage, & Perseverance
● Be Well: Skills that help students handle their emotions and deal with stress. These skills are taught alongside Gratitude, Honesty, & Creativity This year, you’ll be invited to join the fun! We will send letters home about the skills and strengths being taught each month. Each letter will include some ways to build these skills at home, discussion starters, and fun challenges you can try with your family.
The path forward is full of growth! We cannot wait to partner with you in this work…
● To teach students how to build strong friendships
● To work together to solve problems, big and small
● To grow skills for life
● To become PurposeFull People

Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Laino
Friendships are important. If your child is having difficulty with making friends, and/or identifying the difference between healthy and unhealthy friendships please consider joining the K-4 Counselors at Franklin Elementary for information on how to help your child with his/her friendships. We will define the differences between what is rude, mean, and bullying, as well as share our observations and data to show what trends we are seeing in our buildings. We will also offer solutions, suggestions, and resources for parents and guardians to help their children. You can RSVP using the QR code attached to this flyer or using the link below.
