Principal's Message
Hello STEM Family!
We are at the time of year that the weather takes us on quite the roller coaster ride! We go from 60 and sunny one day to 30 and snow the next day. Make sure your students are dressed and prepared to be outside every day. If you have not already, now is a great time to get mud boots for students to keep at school. As spring arrives, there are great opportunities to learn outside. They even use them at recess so they don't get their regular shoes dirty!
Speaking of shoes - At this time, students are permitted to wear their Crocs, however, they must have them in "sport mode". This means they have the strap around their heel. Crocs are not the best footwear to play in at recess or go out on the trail to the outdoor classroom.
We have been busy working hard on our reading and writing skills every day. Students in grades K-3 spend at least 120 minutes each day on literacy. This time has paid off! We can see significant growth in our students' reading on the iReady diagnostic. Learning how to read is hard work and it is a partnership between the school and home. Reading to and with your student makes a huge difference in their skills. By making reading a priority at home, students are more ready to learn at school. If you have any questions or need any resources for reading at home, please let teachers know!
We are reading to go for a full 5 day week!
Sincerely,
Cara Will

Springmill STEM News of the Week
Springmill STEM Coding Club News
Our after school coding club have been doing a great job learning how to use Scratch to code. In order to write a code, students have to understand what the code means and what order it has to go in for it to work correctly.
This week, students will plan and create their own coding project to share with the other students on March 6th (parents & families invited).
6th Grade Travels to RSAA for Cooking Class
In a first ever partnership, our 6th grade students went to Richland School of Academic Arts to attend a cooking class with Chef Michael Daniels. 4th Grade teacher Daveta Dennis organized this activity to provide the students with a new experience while highlighting black professionals in Mansfield for Black History Month. Students from STEM and RSAA worked with a partner to make a Prime Rib Slider with sauteed mushroom and onion and Fettuccini Chicken Alfredo from scratch! Afterword, they enjoyed the food they cooked in a profession dining experience.
