Greetings Families,


Thank you for attending parent-teacher conferences this past month. It is always great to be able to connect and build upon the relationship between home and school. We had a fun end to the month of November with our school-wide OMSI Science Festival before Thanksgiving and then the start of our Right Brain artist Korekara Taiko. Japanese Korekara Taiko brings the power of the drum to our students. Taiko, a unique blend of musical, visual and physical art forms engages our students’ minds and bodies, incorporating the life skills of respect, cooperation and perseverance. Each classroom will receive four lessons in Taiko between Nov. 26th and Jan. 17th. We kicked off our Taiko with an amazing assembly.   • Thurs., Dec. 6th--College Wear Day! Wear you college gear.
  • Fri., Dec. 7th--Book Fair Preview: classes will visit the book fair during the school day and bring home a list of books they are interested in.
  • Fri., Dec. 7th--Booster Club Family Movie Night: Join us for a fun, free movie night! Doors open at 5:30 and the movie will start at 6:00. We will have popcorn and the book fair will be open for anyone who would like to shop.

Canned Food Drive

This year we are once again partnering with the Elks Club for our annual Holiday Canned Food Drive. Please bring in healthy canned or boxed food items. Barrels are located in the front lobby and near the gym through December 14th. Thank you!

Attendance

Our school goal is to have a less than 10% chronic absenteeism rate. As of 11/30/18, our chronic attendance rate is at 8.68%! HSD defines excessive absence and or tardies at 10 or more days for the year. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure our students are at school every day!

Updated Information and Voicemail

It's always great to check ParentVue to ensure that we have your current contact information. We need your current phone number(s) on file, so we can get a hold of you for any reason pertaining to your child and school. Also, please make sure that your voicemail is set up and that your voicemail box isn't full. Thank you!

Inclement Weather School Closures

In the case of a school closure or delay due to inclement weather, the Hillsboro School District will be initiating an automated call and e-mail to all families in addition to posting the information on District and school websites, Facebook, Twitter, and to our District App. We will also send the information out through FlashAlert. Please make sure your contact information is up to date in our system to ensure you receive a call and email. Please click on this link for more information.

Volunteering

Don't forget that if you would like to volunteer in the classroom, for school events, field trips, etc. you need to fill out the district volunteer application. Please do this as soon as possible so you are cleared to volunteer.
