Junior, Hailey Barnhart entered a design for the Food Bank Logo contest. Her design was chosen and she received a Visa Card. Hailey was in the Valley Times Star for this accomplishment!

The Big Spring Theater Program performed the musical "Phantom of the Opera". This year, the community had two weekend opportunities to see the musical. The show times were April 5, 6, 12, 13, 14 at 7pm and April 7 at 2pm. Congratulations to the cast, tech, directors, and all other helpers!

The school spirit club, Dawg Pound, hosted a Spirit Week from 4/9/18 - 4/13/18 to celebrate the Spring Sports season. The spirit days were as follows:

Monday - Tie Dye / Hippie Dy

Tuesday - Dress to Impress

Wednesday - Dynamic Duo / Twin Day

Thursday - Vacation Apparel

Friday - Maroon and Gold Day

The spirit week led up to the final Pep Rally of the school year.

On April 6th, the teachers participated in their first ever Easter egg hunt. Inside the eggs were various prizes like having the principal make your copies or the principal teaching your class. Mrs. Frankford found the most eggs, she found 27! What a fun new tradition!

For one final time, Lauryn Cunningham, Paige Snyder, Megan Emlet, and Madison Bishop got to wear maroon and gold. They played in the PA Hoops All-Star game. They played with players from Shippensburg and Cedar Cliff. Great job girls!

Congratulations to the Indoor Color Guard team on earning Bronze at the KIDA Championships in Chambersburg. They were 3rd out of 12 groups in their division. This year their performance was called "Pages" and it was about Harry Potter.

Señora Anderson´s spanish 5 class wrote a play and performed it for other spanish classes. All of the play was written in spanish and the students also created props. Great job girls!

On April 10th was the rescheduled SAT school day exam. The original day was a snow day. The exam lasted from 7:30 AM to 12:00 noon. There were approximately 77 students who participated in the SAT School Day Exam.

The annual Operation Beautiful Week that is sponsored by Club C.A.R.E. was April 23- April 27. This year the theme is to build each other up, don't tear each other down. The themed days were as follows:

On Monday, the theme was Beautiful Messages. Club C.A.R.E. members wrote positive messages in chalk on the sidewalk and at lunches; other students could write too.

On Tuesday, the theme was Ultimate Raffle Prizes. At tables during lunches, there were makeup bags from Ulta and clothes from Under Armour available for both boys and girls.

On Wednesday, the theme was Instill Positive Thoughts. As part of the tradition, students could get Dove chocolate from a table at lunches that had positive messages in the wrappers. In addition, there were shirts with positive messages on them for raffle.

On Thursday, the theme was Lucky you. Every female in the school received a give-a-way during 4A. This year, the gift was socks!

On Friday, the theme was Dare to be yourself. Everyone was encouraged to wear a black t shirt. Also, there were post-its with positive messages written on them throughout the building.

On April 19th, 12 TSA students traveled to Seven Springs for the TSA State Conference. That was the highest number of students Big Spring has had qualify. The team of Addison Lay, Connor Greene, and Quinton Egger placed 10th in R/C Off-Road Racing. Junior, Hannah Hess placed 8th in Flight Endurance. Senior, Brennan Flory placed 1st in CAD Architecture which qualified him for the National Competition that is being held in Atlanta, Georgia. Congratulations to these students!

Students that are in Mu Alpha Theta and the Science Honor Society have gone to the elementary schools over the last couple of weeks. They taught fifth graders about both math and science. The fifth grade students got to make slime and ice cream. It's great to see our high school students interacting with the elementary aged students!

Our FFA students had a successful day at the South Central Region Public Speaking Competition in the contest areas of: Junior Prepared, Senior Prepared, and Conservation. The results are as follows:

Olivia and Emily both qualified for the state competition and they will be representing Big Spring, the Cumberland, Dauphin,and Perry Counties, and the South Central Region in June.

The Jacksonville Lion's Club honored 9 students on April 24th. The following seniors were recognized: Blake Barrick, Megan Barrick, Morgan Bear, Lauryn Cunningham, Merci Elliot, Megan Emlet, Natalee Holtry, Courtney Short, and Kersten Wolf. Congratulations to these students on their achievements!

The following journalism students went to Millersville University for a video conference. Hannah Custer won a first place certificate for "Best PSA". Noah Blessing, Hannah Custer, and Delainy McHenry received first place for the best "On the Spot" PSA. All 6 of the students that attended learned a lot and got to practice their skills with Millersville students.

On Friday August 27, students took a field trip to Philadelphia. They got to go on a tour of the Lincoln Financial Field which is where the Philadelphia Eagles play. The tour informed the students about the business side of sports. To finish off the day, the students got to tour and watch a Phillies baseball game at Citizen Bank Park.

On April 26th was the 4th quarter Parent Teacher Conferences and the Exhibition Night. A variety of departments displayed student's work in the commons. The Agriculture department showed plants and fish, the Math department showcased geometry projects, the English department had tri-folds of 20% time projects displayed, the World Language department had projects from Spanish 3,4, and 5.

On April 26th was the Honor Society Inductions for National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Technical Honor Society.

Mr. Artz took 3 students to the South Central PA Highway Safety Safe Driving Competition for the Cumberland/Franklin division. Jesse Laird, Jarrett Blake, and Jade Eastham placed 3rd overall. In addition, Jarrett Blake placed 1st overall for individuals and will move on to the State Driving Competition on May 7th. Congratulations to all of the students!

Macey Davis, Sara Crouse, and Aidan Rauscher participated in the USA Archery State Championship in Harrisburg on April 7th and 8th.

Congratulations to the 2017 staff of Waterwheel, Big Spring High School's yearbook! Their excellence in photography was recognized in Balfour Publishing's annual Yearbook. This is the second consecutive year that Waterwheel earned honors from Balfour, one of the nation's leading publishers.

Senior, Austin Negley, demonstrating his masonry skills at a faculty meeting. He wrote about the process for the technical writing class he is taking called "OPUS".

On April 24th, Wyatt Jones, Aidan Rauscher, Tobin Romito, and Bly Welker had an amazing run at the Sea Air and Land Challenge. These students worked together, as a team, to prepare their robot to achieve their goal of picking up and dropping 2 blocks in a course filled with crazy obstacles.
