We're Half Way There!
Next week, the 100th day of school is on Wednesday! To celebrate, we're Keepin' it đź’Ż and dedicating the day to student mental health and wellness with fun activities in each classroom. After school, our PTA will be hosting a healthy luncheon for our staff. Afterwards, staff will get a tour of the VEBA Resource Center. This is a service that is part of SDUSD employee health plans. They host cooking demonstrations, an open gym, mental health counseling, yoga, acupuncture and more! At the conclusion of the tour, one of the VRC mindfulness instructors will lead a calming relaxation session with everyone.

Fire Safety Drill & Secure Campus Sweep Recap
After our conference with SDUSD School Police back in the fall, we made some adjustments to the routes and routines for a “Secure Campus”. Monday, our practice took the same amount of time as the first run-through, even with significantly more unlocked doors along the routes. Unfortunately, we discovered our visual paging system wasn't quite operational yet. We contacted our technology partners who installed the system and were able to remedy the system error on Wednesday.
The fire safety drill went smoothly as well. We were all clear in eight minutes! This isn’t quite our record, but anything under ten minutes is reason to be proud. Our next safety drill will be a drop-cover-hold-evacuate Earthquake drill. We will run it sometime during the week of February 14th. More specific details as we get closer to the date.
Student of the Week - Ann!
This week's Student of the Week is Ann in Ms. Yamashita's Kindergarten class! She excels academically in all curricula areas. Ann enjoys reading "Henry and Mudge" series with pleasure. She can be heard laughing from afar. Ann is a very creative writer and talented illustrator. Ms. Yamashita always looks forward to reading her stories. Ann uses critical thinking skills to solve story problems during math explorations. She demonstrates her understanding using 10 frames, number bonds, and number sentences. Ann loves STEAM. During STEAM explorations, based on pushes and pulls, she created a blueprint for her "bowling arcade." Ann built her arcade out of cardboard boxes. She is currently working on writing "how-to" directions for her bowling arcade. Ann displays kindness by assisting others. She donated items from home so her peers can complete their STEAM "Game On!" project. Congratulations Ann, and thank you for being a phenomenal Falcon!
