Hi Eagle Families,

Welcome to December! Time really does fly when you are having fun! I hope the parent teacher conferences were beneficial to you. If you missed conferences, you may still contact your child's teacher to discuss their progress in school. Thank you to the PTO for providing the staff with a delicious dinner during conferences!

Students had a great week back from break. We jumped right back into our routines. All of our classroom teachers have implemented proficiency scales and standards. Be sure to ask your child what they are learning, why they are learning the concept and how they would rate themselves on what they have learned (ratings are 1, 2, 3, and 4).

We also celebrated National Grinch Day on Friday! Our students and staff wore green or grinch shirts on Friday for spirit day. Be sure to take a look at the spirit calendar below for other fun days this month. We have some updates in the newsletter for this week. Classroom teachers in grades K-5 are providing students with specific learning goals and targets for math lessons along with a level of performance rubric to help students monitor their learning.

When asked, students should be able to:

1. Explain the learning goal/standard for the lesson.
2. Explain how their current classroom activities relate to the learning goal/standard.
3. Explain the levels of the rating system and score themselves either a 1, 2, 3, or 4.

Ask you child...

1. What are you learning in math.
2. Why are you learning it?
3. Are you a 1, 2, 3, or 4 right now?

Flossmoor Hills has been attending an all school field trip to the movies for the past five years! This year we will be going to see the new Trolls movie. All students will receive a movie ticket, popcorn and a bottle of water. Please do not send additional money for snacks as the concession stand will not be open. If your child is allergic to popcorn or coconut oil please reach out to Nurse Sheila Ahiablame sahiablame@sd161.org so we can arrange an alternate snack. We will leave promptly at 8:50 a.m. on Thursday, December 21st and will return to school before lunch time. Our students and staff will be the only ones in the theater and will be supervised at all times.

All students must turn in a permission slip to attend!

Breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m. Students eating breakfast should enter the main entry doors (Door A) upon arrival to school.

• Kindergarten and 5th Grade - 11:30 a.m. - recess begins at 11:50 a.m.
• 1st Grade and 3rd Grade - 12:10 p.m. - recess begins at 12:30 p.m.
• 2nd Grade and 4th Grade - 11:50 a.m. - recess begins at 12:10 p.m.

If you need to drop off lunch to your student after the school day has started, you may utilize the grade level bins on the cart in the foyer. Please label your child's lunch bag.

Reminder: Lunches sent to the school by food delivery services such as Uber Eats, GrubHub, DoorDash, etc. are not allowed.

Log into your child's Skyward account to load money to purchase breakfast and lunch. Please check your child's account regularly.

If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday in school, please send non edible items to share (i.e., pencils, bubbles, stickers, etc.). We cannot allow students to share outside food/treats in school.

Flossmoor Hills is seeking volunteers to run the Eagle Cart. The Eagle Cart has tons of goodies for students to shop with their hard-earned Eagle Bucks. Volunteers will go around to each classroom with the cart and collect Eagle Bucks as the students shop. Our next Eagle Cart date is Friday, December 15, 2023!

As a reminder all volunteers must have a state issued ID scanned to participate.
