The last day to request a schedule change for spring semester is Friday, December 13th.

Students can email or stop by Student Services to make a request.

Schedule changes will ONLY occur in January for one or more of the following reasons:

• You are missing a graduation requirement.
• Your schedule is incomplete, or a class is duplicated.
• You are enrolled in a course that you have already completed and received credit.
• You are enrolled in a course for which you have not met the prerequisite.
• Have a physical injury that does not allow participation in the course.
• You have a signature program error or conflict.

The Shawnee Mission Math Club travelled to Emporia State University on Wednesday Oct 23rd to compete in the 2019 Math Day State-wide competition. Several North students and teams placed at this event including:

The next Shawnee Mission Mathletics competition will be held at Shawnee Mission North on Wednesday Nov 6th at 3:30pm. Also, the Math League contest will be held on Tuesday November 12th right after school in room 238. Any student interested in competing should talk Mrs. Johnson in room 238 for more details.

Future ecologists from Shawnee Mission North participated in the Ecomeet at Ernie Miller Nature Center on Wednesday, October 30th. We fielded four teams. Participants included Phil Anstine, Audrey Brandt, Kiley Kimber, Katie Wilburn, Greta Burg, Therese Bichelmeyer, Daniel Edson, Morgan Kramer, Mya Beets, Jalyn French, Alexia Sabala, Hannah Westermayer, Luis Chavez, Jocelyn Dahn, Dylan Deathe, and Jordyn Kelley.

Teams competed in 4 events: a 100 question Kansas Ornithology test, a 100 question Kansas Woodlands test, a 20 minute indoor scavenger hunt for native plant species, and a 5 minute interpretive skit. We battled against teams from SM South, Blue Valley, Gardner, and Tonganoxie. 50 students formed 13 teams.

The results: SMN Team D took 2nd place in the interpretive event. Team B took 4th place overall, barely missing an opportunity to go to the state competition in Hesson, KS on November 7th. However, for the first time in North history one student took 2nd place on the Woodlands test: Greta Berg! She qualified for state and will be competing against the top 18 students in Kansas for a scholarship. Congrats to Greta!

2020 Yearbooks can be purchased through the bookkeeper in the main office or at www.yearbookforever.com through Jan. 10, 2020. Cost is $48 if purchased at school.

If you didn't purchase your book during fee payment, the money ($48) or a check made out to SM North, can be taken to the bookkeeper by January 10. If you would like to pay with a credit card, payment can be made at www.yearbookforever.com. Choose SM North. There is a $2 service fee if you choose to pay online.

After Jan. 10, only 65 extra overstock supply of yearbooks will be available for $65. These will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Once they are gone, none will be available.

This is your last chance to celebrate your senior's graduation with a Senior Ad in the 2020 yearbook, the Indian.

The third and final deadline is November 15.

Seniors love to see a Senior Ad purchased by their loved ones in the yearbook, so don’t miss out on purchasing one to celebrate your child’s graduation.

Senior Ad forms can be dropped off at the SMN front office or mailed to SM North, attn. Becky Tate.

If you would like to pay with a credit card and/or submit all your photos and Senior Ad contract online, they can be uploaded and paid for at www.yearbookforever.com. Choose SM North.

After you send your Senior Ad in, you will receive a proof via email by Feb. 9. If you haven't seen yours by then, please call 913-993-7012 or email notate@smsd.org and check on the ad. Photos will be returned in late April.

This year, open enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace is six weeks from November 1 through December 15.

The Kansas Assisters Network helps families complete health insurance and social services applications and provides education about health insurance and how to obtain healthcare. They help families apply for Marketplace and Medicaid as well as connect with services in the community.

The Health Insurance Marketplace is for people who don’t have health coverage.

· Encourage good nutrition – Encourage your child to take and eat the fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and low-fat milk offered in school meals.

· Taste for yourself – Take time to visit your child at school and enjoy a nutritious school meal.

· Be a healthy role model – Eat a wide variety of healthy foods with your children.

Don’t forget – if your child receives free or reduced meals, they are eligible for one breakfast and one lunch per day as part of this benefit. All breakfast and lunch meal choices are available for all students regardless of eligibility status.
