Dear Swift-Slaybaugh Families,

This was a very exciting week at the Complex, as we celebrated one of our favorite weeks of the year, "Read Across America Week!" Our students and staff enjoyed participating in the various theme days and being read to by the many guest readers who visited our classrooms, including parents, community members, and staff members. It was exciting to see everyone coming together for such an important part of school and life- literacy. We know life gets very busy, but we do encourage you to read with your children at home whenever you have the time. It is so vital for students to see the importance of reading both at school and at home.

As you know by now, masks will begin to be optional this coming Monday, March 7th. We would like to reiterate that this is a personal decision for each family and whatever you decide will be respected. We look forward to getting back to some sense of normalcy and see all those smiling faces once again. Should you have any questions or concerns as we continue to navigate this everchanging situation, please know you can reach out to me at any time. I hope you and your families have a great weekend. Get out there and enjoy the spring-like weather, as it is supposed to be in the 60s on Sunday! Take care.

Mrs. Lee's Kindergarten students had fun working at their Dr. Seuss themed centers this week to celebrate Read Across America Week.

Mrs. Widas' class joined the Wordle craze! They had a great time reviewing spelling patterns using this fun game!

Mrs. Speigel's class would like to thank Olivia and Jackson's father and Lamont's mother for being our guest readers this week. The children enjoyed donuts and milk while listening to the stories. (Sponsored by teachers and other members of the Egg Harbor Township Education Association)

Mrs. Efstatos' Class had some very special guest readers this week to celebrate "Read Across America Week." EHT Police Captain, Mike Finnerty joined them on "Career Day" to talk about his job in the police department, as well as share his favorite Dr. Seuss books. Mr. Marinelli and Mrs. Casumpang visited the classroom to read their favorite books too. Even Mrs. E.'s own children joined in via Google Meet to read one of their favorite childhood stories.

This week, Nurse Ginger was Mrs. Del Prete's special Guest Reader for Read Across America Day! Our 2nd grade class listener to Nurse Ginger read The Cow That Went OINK by Bernard Most, an awesome story about the importance of kindness.

This week in music the PSD classes learned about the flute and even got to make their own flute out of paper!

Students in Mrs. Milstead's Pre-School class dressed up in observance of Cultural Diversity Day.

Mrs. Powell and Mrs. Stom are​ celebrating Read Across America Week at the Swift-Slaybaugh Complex for "Dress Up As Your Dream Job Day" as a reading teacher and an art teacher living out their dream jobs every day!

To celebrate Read Across America Week, Mrs. DeNaples caught students in the act of reading. Students who were caught reading received a prize!

Thanks to the Slaybaugh Elementary Art Teacher, Mrs. Stom and the EHTEA for an AMAZING P.R.I.D.E Grant! 2nd and 3rd graders will be listening to the book "Our Skin: A First Conversation About Race" and each receive their own box of Crayola Multicultural Crayons as well as a wooden, posable figure! The goal of this grant is to have students celebrate the beautiful skin they are in and have the tools to draw people to look more like themselves, their family, and friends!

Congratulations to our Slaybaugh Primary Staff Member Kimberlee Speers. Ms. Speers is our PSD Music Teacher who is doing an outstanding job with music and movement in her classes.

Last week, Slaybaugh Elementary celebrated the 100th Day of School by "Cooking Up Kindness" with a canned and boxed food drive for the Food Bank of New Jersey on the Black Horse Pike. Together, the 2nd grade students and teachers donated 276 cans and boxes of food for those in need!!!😊
