Carver Family Newsletter
August 26, 2021
Greetings from the Principal
Our scholars have gotten back into the grove, and we are well on our way to an exciting and successful school year.
Please be on the lookout for these weekly newsletters. They are full on useful information about our school and other SFUSD programs. If you are reading this, please share it with 3 friends who may not have received it!
Looking forward to another great week!
Warmly,
Principal Manning
Back To School Night (VIRTUAL)
You can click this link to come to the main room. After you hear from Principal Manning, and Assistant Principal Ari, you will be invited to your child's Educator's Zoom rooms to meet the teacher.
If you have more than one child as Carver, you will have opportunities to visit all of your children's teachers. Grade level programs will run every 30 minutes starting at 5:30 PM.
Tardy/Absences
Tardy/Late Arrivals:
Tardy/late is an arrival after 8:40 AM.
After two late arrivals within a week, Ms. Hines will reach out to families to create a partnership and plan for on-time or even early arrival at school.
Absences:
If your child is ill, please call the school (415-330-1540) as early as 7:30am to alert our school secretary, Mrs. White.
Three or more absences in a row will require a doctor's note in order to be excused. You may send the note with your child upon his/her return to school. You can also email it to Mrs. White (whitec1@sfusd.edu).
If your child has two or more unexcused absences within a week, Ms. Hines will reach out to families to offer support or to help remove barrier to excellent attendance.
Attendance matters! Our children have a minimum number of minutes of reading and math that they should receive daily in order to excel at their current grade level. Each absence or late arrival takes away from learning time and creates gaps in achievement.
Also, absences cost our school. Monies can be re-directed away from Carver if our tracker shows that children are not regularly in attendance. Please do your part in helping us preserve all of our resources. Send your child to school on time every day.
Lunches From Home
Carver Elementary School has been the recipient of various health and wellness awards from SFUSD for our commitment to the health and wellness of our students and staff.
To that point, the following foods are not allowed for lunch:
-soda
-chips/Takis
-candy of any kind
-cupcakes
-cookies
-donuts
-frappes or any caffeinated coffeehouse drinks
-fast food/Happy Meals
If your child brings these foods to school, they will be held by the teacher or principal and given back after school.
In addition, Carver is a PEANUT FREE campus. Due to the many severe peanut allergies on campus, we are kindly asking families to refrain from sending any foods with peanut butter in them out of safety for our students. Thank you for your cooperation.
Birthday Parties
-coordinate with your child's teacher at least 3-5 days in advance. This way, instructional time is not interrupted and the teacher can tell you when the best time would be for a celebration.
-Treats must be store-bought and individually wrapped.
-No cupcakes, cakes, cookies, or a candy bags are allowed.
Acceptable birthday treats include:
-fruit cups
-apple sauce
-yogurt cups
-popcorn/pretzels
We know this may look a lot different than how we are used to celebrating birthdays, and we thank you for working in partnership with us to offer our children healthier food options.
