COUNSELOR CONNECTION
Valerius Students are RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, and SAFE
Hello Valerius Families,
I hope the school year is off to a great start for your student(s). Please let me know if you have concerns or your child needs support in making the adjustment back to school. I’d be happy to help!
I’d like to share a little about PBIS, our school-wide behavior program that promotes school safety and responsible behavior. PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and it involves three tiers of support for helping students be RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE AND SAFE throughout the building. We are starting the year by focusing on Tier 1, which involves all Valerius students. Teachers and support staff are teaching specific expectations (rules) in every area of the school and are using a pom-pom system to reinforce students and classes that are following the expectations. If you find a pom-pom in a pocket or in your laundry, please send it back! All classes are working to fill a jar with pom-poms and when it’s filled, the class celebrates their accomplishment. In addition, when the whole school together has filled ten jars, we will be having our school-wide celebrations. We had our first one this week on Thursday, with pajama day. The kids are looking forward to earning the next school wide celebration- pizza party!
Please ask your child about our system and how she or he is showing Respectful, Responsible, and Safe behavior at Valerius!
Feel free to email me if you have questions or would like to be involved as a parent representative on our PBIS team. Enjoy the fall weather! Mrs. MacGregor
