A Note From the Principal
Hello River Hawk Families,
Happy New Year! As we prepare to come back to school on Monday, I wish each of you and your family the best for 2024. Welcome to our new families joining us for our spring semester. I hope you and your student find Rio to be as special a place as I do!

Active Lockdown DRILL
This Friday, January 12th we will have an active lockdown drill. Previously our drills have been educational in the advisory classroom. Now that students know what to do, we will practice going from an "active" situation outside of classes to see how quickly we can lock our campus down and ensure students know what to do should an actual event ever occur. The drill will take place some time prior to our lunch period and will be at a time when students are not in classes. Again this is just an opportunity to practice and assess what we have taught. Parents will receive an email reminder the morning of the drill.
Should you have any concerns about your student participating in this active drill, please reach out to your child's counselor by Wednesday.
Class Schedules and First Day Bell Schedule
Monday, January 8th, we welcome our River Hawks back on campus. This first day back will be a six period day, where students will start with their advisory class for "Student Check-in" at 8:15 a.m. Students will then attend all 6 of their classes. Second semester schedules were released on Infinite Campus after 3 p.m. this past Friday and parents should have received an email on Thursday afternoon about this. While some schedules stayed the same, many of our students saw their classes moved around due to several changes we had to make in the master schedule. We do not change teams or teachers, but your student's class periods may have shifted. Click these links for instructions on how to view schedules in Infinite Campus:
Instructions for Students to view their schedule
Instructions for Parents to view their student's schedule
Please remind your student that elective classes are exploratory and changes will not be considered unless they have had the exact same elective previously. If this has occurred your student should report to their counselor Monday morning in the library or at the start of the period they have an issue with. Any student that could not access their schedule can also go to the library Monday morning and the counselors will help them get their new schedule. Our apologies in advance, but because we are so impacted, students schedules cannot be changed back to their former schedule. Counselors will only be able to assist those with errors in their schedule.
Want Daily News About Rio Norte?
Our student-run RioTV class, led by Mr. Ippolito, puts out a daily informational show that students watch each day in their advisory class (first period on Wednesdays). This is a great way to gain information about things happening our campus, including club meeting dates. Most Fridays, Mrs. Bennett, our Principal, addresses the student body with messages around our SOAR motto and being kind to one another. Click here for RioTV online.
ID Card Scanning begins on Monday, January 8th
On Monday, January 8th all students will need to present their ID card at either of our entry gates for scanning. 8th graders will recall doing this last year and we now have enhanced technology to support this process again. Students should look for their ID cards this weekend or plan to get a replacement in the library as soon as they return. Replacement IDs are $5. Students who do NOT have their ID card must go to the front gate to sign-in. Lines will move more quickly if students have their ID card out and ready to present when they reach the gate. Students should allow for some extra time in line the first week we return until students become more familiar with the new process.
