Note from Dr. Mullenschlader
It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praise to your name, Most High - Psalm 92
For though the fig tree does not blossom, and no fruit appears on the vine, Though the yield of the olive fails and the terraces produce no nourishment, Though the flocks disappear from the fold and there is no herd in the stalls, Yet I will rejoice in the LORD and exult in my saving God. - Habbakuk 3:17
In all matters we give praise and thanks to God, this is how we practice the virtue of gratitude and how we model gratitude for our children. In a society that prides itself of accumulating stuff, we can easily get consumed with the idea of preparing for Christmas too early, but the greatness of Thanksgiving is that it simplifies all of trappings of the season down to two words "Thank You." For the most part, Thanksgiving is about being grateful for family and food. I do not think it is a coincidence that there are many scriptural metaphors of heaven being a feast. So I pray that for all of us, that we can see how being thankful leads us closer to God, the giver of all good things. Have a blessed Thanksgiving.

Virtue of the Month - Gratitude
Gratitude is the thankful disposition of mind and heart.
St. Josephine Bakhita was born in 1869 and a young girl was captured by slave traders in Sudan. An Italian family took her in and treated her very kindly. The family provided her an opportunity to experience the Catholic faith. She was baptized and became a sister with the Daughters of Charity. She was so grateful to God for the opportunity to love him.
adapted from the Disciples of Christ: Education in Virtue
Here is a prayer for the children to say at home: Dear Jesus, Please give me a thankful heart, realizing that all I have comes from You.
Scriptures for the month:
Colossians 2:6-7, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, James 1:2-4
