Update for Week of June 18, 2024
Principal Update
It is difficult to believe that we have just one 1/2 day of school left. This year started out very hot and has now come full circle with the oppressive heat. Although the temperature is rising, we have been doing our best to keep it cool in the building. I am thankful for all of the families who have offered us fans. Teachers have done everything they can to keep students hydrated throughout the day.
Yesterday we had a special visit from Parker the therapy dog. Parker is a trained therapy dog who visits schools, hospitals and libraries and is certified to read with students. Students learned a little bit about Parker and then those who wanted were able to pat Parker. As a dog lover myself, it was wonderful to have Parker in school to help us wrap up the year.
Lastly, tomorrow there is no school in honor of Juneteenth. Juneteenth remembers the freedom of African Americans from slavery in the U.S. in 1865. This day is celebrated to honor the day that Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Texas more than a year and a half after President Abraham Lincoln had declared the end of slavery on January 1, 1863.
Thank you!
