IMPORTANT DATES COMING UP
Dear Carman Parents,
I hope you have had a wonderful week and were able to enjoy the nice Spring weather! Just a few reminders for upcoming events:
* All In-Person Students will have Virtual Learning on both Monday, April 12th AND Friday, April 16th.
In addition:
* All In-Person Students will have Virtual Learning every Monday beginning April 12th and continuing through Monday, May 24th.
* Parents should have received an enrollment form via email on April 6. Families will need to complete the form to select an in-person or virtual learning experience for their student(s) for the 2021-2022 school year. The form is due by April 18.
Please note, your enrollment selection will be for the entire 2021-22 school year.
* Carman Trails PTO is having a fundraiser with Papa John's on April 19th & 20th -- see the flyer below for details!
Special Note:
Due to not hosting large crowds, we will not have "May Day" this year. We have been told to stay the course to help mitigate the spread of Covid in our schools. The possibility of high temps with masks and close proximity of multiple classes together along with assemblies being canceled for this school year are the main reasons for the decision. We are looking forward to hosting more of our traditions next school year. Let's stay encouraged the trends will continue to decline.
With CT Pride,
Allison
THANK YOU FOR THE GA-GA PIT! WE LOVE IT!
Connect to nature through technology
Happy Spring! Take time to get some fresh air and enjoy the beautiful weather. Integrate technology into your family’s outdoor experience to encourage an appreciation and a deeper understanding of the natural world.
iNaturalist
Take photos of plants, fungi, and animals (or even evidence of animals such as tracks, nests, shells, or skulls) and iNaturalist can help you identify these organisms. You can also connect with other scientists and naturalists who can help you learn more about nature. By recording and sharing your observations, you’ll create data for scientists working to better understand and protect nature. iNaturalist is a joint initiative by the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society. Thanks to the generous support of many organizations and individuals, it is FREE for anyone to use. iNaturalist is available on Google Play and Apple
Google Lens
Similar to iNaturalist, Google Lens can identify plants and animals from a photo. You can also take a self-guided architecture tour with Google Lens. Just take a picture of a building or a landmark and you can learn more about it. If you have Google Lens, be sure to look out for the Google Lens icon with the photo. Google Lens work slightly differently between Android and Apple devices.
What are you waiting for? Go out, explore, and learn more about the world around you today with technology.

Visit the Parkway Virtual Campus website for detailed information about the full-day learning experience provided. Information is divided by elementary, middle, and high school. Under each level, you will find a description of a daily schedule that includes live instruction, synchronous and asynchronous work time, and more.

Making Flower Balls
Learning About Plants
Almost Ready to Plant!
April Showers bring Earth Day and Flowers
As the season changes from Winter to Spring, this month we will be learning about all things Mother Earth. This week our focus was on plants and gardening. We had students create Seed Balls ™ which are plantable paper balls that will sprout into flowers several weeks after planting. We made paper flower decorations to celebrate the beauty of springtime.
On an unrelated note, our students finished their second puzzle of the year. This time a 1000 piece Alice & Wonderland Puzzle! Next week we'll be learning about weather and how it affects our lives.
Finally as a heads up Earth Day is April 22nd! To celebrate Earth Day this year, we are planning on planting a cinder block garden!
Grab a Spot on Virtual Learning Days from 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
