MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Good Evening Otter Families!
We have made it to Thanksgiving Break! I hope you find time to enjoy lots of food, family, and fun over the next several days.
Upon your return, you will notice a new face in our building. Mr. Goodman is joining the Otter Squad as our Safety and Security Assistant. Please be sure to give him a big Oakville welcome when you see him.
Finally, our Otter Community Room is almost ready to be unveiled! The furniture has arrived and the room is having final touches put on it by our Building Services crew. Be on the lookout for the announcement that it is open for business before Winter Break!
Otterly Yours,
Mrs. Anderson (My email remains the same for now, lpdietz@smcps.org)
Mr. Goodman, Safety and Security Assistant

UPDATES FROM THE FRONT OFFICE
Kindergarten's 15 (School) Days of Christmas
Beginning on Nov. 28 thru Dec. 16th, we will collect non-perishable foods to donate to a local food pantry. Each day of the 15 days, we will collect different foods so that we receive a variety.
The entire school is asked to join in on our collection. Students may bring items to the classroom for pick up each morning.
There may be a little math involved with sorting, counting, and comparing too!
Please see below for what foods we are collecting on each of our 15 days of Christmas. Thank you for your support in making this a successful food drive!

UPDATES FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
Message from the MD Department of Health
Dear Public and Non-Public School Partners,
You may be aware that Maryland has seen an early surge of severe respiratory illness,
especially in very young and school-age children. Many children with Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) or other respiratory viruses including influenza (flu) and
COVID-19 will experience cold-like symptoms, such as runny nose, coughing, sneezing, fever, and a decrease in appetite.
However, infants, people who are immunocompromised, and people living with certain chronic medical conditions may experience a severe illness that can cause difficulty breathing and hospitalization.
The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) has developed a Respiratory Illness Prevention Toolkit with information and resources to support awareness of respiratory virus infections and steps Marylanders can take to protect themselves.
Please consider sharing specific resources such as the fact sheet and/or infographic with students, families, and staff. The toolkit also contains materials for websites and social media.
Additional resources related to respiratory illnesses including RSV, flu, and COVID-19 can be found on this webpage.
Thank you for helping us keep Maryland students healthy and ready to learn.
