From the Principal...Matt Clark
Good afternoon Thompson families and Happy Labor Day weekend! It’s hard to believe we have three weeks in the books. I think it’s safe to say that the 23-24 school year is up and running. Just like your children, the staff at TMS very much appreciated the reprieve from the heat this week…let’s worry about next week, next week. With cooler temperatures came one of my favorite aspects of middle school…fall sports! It was so awesome to see the Thompson Thunder competing this week and the number of students and families supporting them on the field, in the gym and on the course. Regardless of the sport or activity, it is great to see our students getting involved!
However, the love of fall sports did not end with our students this week. The Thompson staff got into the spirit with a tailgating theme for our professional learning on Friday. As you can see we took time to learn and grow professionally, while having some fun along the way. A huge thanks to our awesome PTO for providing lunch and cooking out for us in the courtyard!
Tailgating is something that my wife and I very much enjoy, specifically for Chicago Bears games. We try to get to a game every year. It is something we really have fun doing and always have a blast. Here’s hoping for a good season from the blue and orange this year.
Family Resource Form
In D303, we value the opportunity to provide a community of care and support to our families, especially those faced with financial hardship. If your family is experiencing a significant financial need, our community partnerships have several supports available for families, including school clothes/shoes, winter coats/accessories, school supplies, toiletries, holiday meals, and holiday gifts. If you would like to be considered for any of these supports, please complete the Family Resource Form by September 1, 2023.
Arrival & Dismissal
Parents and guardians, everyone has done a great job of getting to the building on time this week. We have also been working to refine our practices to get students home safely as quickly and efficiently as possible. Please see the attached arrival and departure procedures to ensure our partnership to get students to and from school remains as effective as it has been this first week.
Pre-Arranged Absence
Students planning to be absent from school should complete a pre-arranged absence form, with parent and teacher signatures, at least two days prior to the date of absence. Students receive five excused pre-arranged days per school year, additional days beyond that are considered to be unexcused. Times that a pre-arragned absence should be completed include but are not limited to:
- Participation in regional or national contest/award
- Family vacation
- Special religious event
