Spaulding High School's November Newsletter
Please read our newest publication letting you know what is going on this month. As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to us. We hope you all have a nice Thanksgiving!
Model United Nations Team competes in Massachusetts
The Model UN team had a great time at UMass Lowell during the crisis conferences. We had 16 students competing in 8 different scenarios across campus. There were over 170 students from across New England present.
Julia McCarthy and Ty Wyman both were awarded first place (Outstanding Delegates) in their conferences and Rachel Boughman received an honorable mention.
Overall they had a great time and are looking forward to their next competition!
What is happening in Advisory this month?
Spaulding High School has started to implement the career-readiness lessons from Xello, a career and college readiness platform designed to help students develop a plan for after high school. Topics that were covered this month were personality styles, work values, choosing a college, and career backup plans. In December, seniors will begin working on their Senior Capstone Portfolio.
Student Spotlight
Senior Spaulding music member, Joshua Turpin, was recently selected for two amazing statewide musical opportunities. He was selected to be a member of the NH Jazz All-State Honors Band, competing against 25 of the most accomplished trumpet players in the state.
He was also one of eight students in the state who earned a place with the 39th Army Band of New Hampshire to join them in playing as part of their Jazz Band for their Veterans Day performance. Congratulations, Josh!
Mental Health Wellness and Awareness
Our school continues to provide Mental Wellness resources to students, teachers, and families. Currently, our District is collaborating with Community Partners to provide "Youth Mental Health First Aid Training". Eighteen teachers participated in the first training in November.
We also had a Student Leadership Group participate in a "Mental Health, Peer Support Conference" where various school wellness initiatives were discussed. Our Leadership Group is discussing next steps.

Upgraded Security
In an effort to continue upgrading our security measures, we have added two new facial recognition monitors in each of our main entrances. The monitors will be used for our sign-in management process and will print a sticker with their picture, name, company name (if a vendor), and date/time. These monitors will only be used for visitors to the building who would normally have to sign in (parent/guardians, contractors, outside contracted services, etc...). This new equipment will allow us to have immediate information and pictures of every visitor in our building. These monitors will not be used for sporting events, open houses, and musical performances.
Inclement Weather...
As the colder weather arrives, it is a great time to remind families of our procedure during inclement or cold weather days. In the event of a delay or cancellation, notifications will be sent out via text, email, posted on the SAU 54 app and WMUR.
In the event of a remote day, students are expected to attend all scheduled classes via Google Classroom. The remote day schedule and expectations can be found on the Spaulding High School website.
Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO) Update

New this year we now have an established school to work partnership with Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Potter's House Bakery and the Rochester Opera House. We are beginning to plan for the ELO Showcase which will be held on Wednesday January 17th - stay tuned for more details!

Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week 2023 consisted of another successful door decorating contest. Pictured above you can see our winning advisory, Ms. Griffin, incorporated a Halloween design with some great drug prevention facts.
Students were introduced to the #nosafeexperience campaign. “No Safe Experience” is a New Hampshire-based, statewide campaign that focuses on awareness by educating youth, young adults, and families of the dangers and prevalence of fentanyl in fake pills and illicit drugs.
Along with this campaign students were also provided with tools to create positive affirmations such as “I am not alone.” One of the goals was to provide substance misuse facts while providing positive coping skills students can use when facing stressful situations. Thank you to all that participated in Red Ribbon Week 2023.of
