Valentine Volunteer Opportunity

Join Student Council on Friday, February 10th from 2:45-3:30 in the Hough gym. We will be decorating origami hearts and filling them with candy to share with residents at Sunrise Assisted Living Center in Barrington. This event is open to the first 40 Hough students who register. Please complete one registration per student (do not put multiple students on a single registration). Register here.

Student and Parent 5Essentials Survey

Starting this month students, staff, and parents will be asked to complete the Illinois 5Essentials survey. I encourage all families to take a couple of minutes to complete the parent portion of the survey, which is linked in the parent letter below. This information provides our district and school leaders with feedback to help guide school improvement planning and actions in the future. In addition, please take a second to read through the student survey letter to learn more about the student portion of the 5Essentials process. Please know that only students in grades 4 and 5 will be asked to take this survey at Hough.

Staff Gratitude

We are overwhelmed with the generosity of our incredible parent community. Thank you for stocking the staff lounge with sweet treats, healthy snacks, Keurig pods of all sorts, creamers galore and bubbly waters. These cold and gloomy days are a little brighter thanks to the stocked lounge!

Pride Board

We have begun introducing our February Pride Board category to students; Practicing Advocacy and Empathy. Advocacy is defined as “identifying and seeking support when needed for yourself and others.” Empathy is “understanding and sharing the feelings of others.” This is a “meaty” category so we are spending time reviewing these concepts to make them meaningful to even our youngest learners.

A big shout out to our final two students who were recognized for their Critical Thinking & Problem Solving skills.
