A message from Mr. Ryder
Overlook Families,
Happy New Year! The joy on student faces as they headed back to school on January 4th lit up our hallways! These past two days have provided time for reconnections, rebuilding routines, and sparking the excitement of a new year together. Let's make 2024 extraordinary!
Sincerely,
Mr Ryder

Character Strong Trait for January: Perseverance
Have you ever built a tower that wobbles before it stands tall? Learned a bike trick after countless wobbly falls? That's perseverance – sticking with something even when it's tough. At school, we learn so much: reading, math, science, social studies, but also grit! We stumble through fractions, sweat over stories, and sometimes feel like giving up. But perseverance and our teachers whisper, "One more try!" Perseverance teaches us to dust ourselves off, try new ways, and celebrate small victories.
Learning about perseverance isn't just about finishing first; it's about NEVER giving up, even when things get wobbly. It's the superhero cape we wear when facing challenges, the secret sauce that turns "I can't" into "I did it!" So, let's celebrate every stumble and cheer every triumph, because at Overlook Elementary School, every step – even the wobbly ones – teaches us the superpower of perseverance!

December Board Student of the Month
It is my pleasure to recognize Lucca Porchowsky as Overlook Elementary’s, December, Board Student of the Month. Lucca is the son of Jeremy and Jamee Prochowsky and the brother to Ava in 9th grade, Gianna in 8th grade, and Gema in 1st grade.
Lucca is a 4th-grade student at Overlook Elementary and demonstrates being safe, kind, and responsible on a daily basis. His 4th grade teachers Mrs. Bennet and Mrs. Pecnik had this to say:
“Lucca has been an amazing fourth-grade leader this year. He begins every day with a positive attitude. We appreciate the responsibility that he shows as he comes to school each day prepared and ready to learn. He leads with a quiet example in the classroom by working hard and participating in classroom discussions. He is a kind friend to everyone and is respected by his classmates. Lucca takes pride in his work and strives to do his best. We appreciate how he shows respect to everyone in the building. You are a shining star, Lucca! We know that you will continue to shine bright!”
Lucca stated that math is his favorite subject. He especially likes multiplication and division and his latest lessons on factoring. He is also interested in Social Studies and is excited to learn about the Revolutionary War.
Outside of academics, Lucca is a member of the Wadsworth 4th-grade football and basketball teams. He dreams of a future in the NFL or NBA, but also holds an interest in technology. When not on the field or court, he enjoys watching TV, fishing, and spending time with his "really big dog," Pistachio, an English Mastiff.
It is with great pleasure and pride to present Lucca Porchowsky as the Overlook, December Board Student of the Month!
