Message from Mr. Dahlberg, Dean of Students
What a year it has been. As I reflect on the school year, I am flooded with great memories of team building, prayer, competitions, performances, academic successes, and recess fun. We are truly blessed to get to work at such an amazing school, in such a beautiful building, and with such passionate families. It has been an honor to serve as Dean of Students and while it has been a learning experience, I hope that I have helped your child be a better version of themselves over the course of the year. Here at SMC, we strive to bring our students closer to God in everything that they say and do. Every day over the announcements we say, "Be an example of Christ in your words and actions." We hope that you have seen a change in your children for the better and being a part of that brings great joy. It has been a privilege and honor to help them grow this school year and we look forward to continuing to work with you to raise disciples of Christ. Whether that be in our walls or from across the parking lot, please know that we thank you for your support, we love educating your children, and we hope that you have a blessed summer.
Message from Mrs. Kalaus, Guidance Counselor
Advisory/Character Strong
Sankofa is a word from the Akan Twi and Fante languages of Ghana and means “to go back to the past and bring forward that which is useful.” All classes will do this in their Character Strong sessions this week or next. The idea is to look back on all the Social and Emotional lessons learned and bring into the future all that is good and helps one to be at their very best. This is good practice in all subjects and especially in the faith lessons taught this year. In fact, Father Judah encouraged this at Mass today as well! When you reinforce these skills that are practiced in our Character Strong sessions, you help with Sankofa! It truly is a partnership with home and school.
ACP Conferences
Thank you to all the parents who came for an Academic and Career Planning (ACP)Conference with Mrs. Kalaus. These are now finished for the year, but you are welcome to call or email at any time with questions you may have about the transition to high school or other concerns.
Elizabeth Ann Seton Awards
Elizabeth Ann Seton was the first American born saint, started the first American parochial school and orphanage, where she cared for the poor. She also began the first American community of women religious, following the example of St. Vincent de Paul. Like Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, we are called to a life of service with love for God and others.
Between Advent and Lent, we challenged students to look for opportunities to grow in faith, love, and service. To earn the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton award, each applicant needed to meet a number of requirements which showed them as a disciple of Christ. They needed to model a positive example for other youth, be a witness to their faith by exhibiting Catholic morals and integrity, and to demonstrate Gospel values through service to others.
I am proud of the four students who successfully completed this challenge for the 2022-23 school year.
Our first-year recipients are Anderson Homburg and Mina Jackson
Our second-year recipient is Colton Kraft
Our third-year recipient is Claire Higgins.
