Week of December 13th, 2021
I see Red at the end of the tunnel!!
Cougar Red and Christmas Red!
Monday, December 13th, I am hosting CHS educators to a session where the whole focus for 20-25 minutes is on YOU! I don't have the funds for a masseuse for everyone, but I am planning on a fun and relaxing time! All campus administrators are invited to plan a session for your staff next semester!
In reflecting a bit more on our WISHES theme, we don't always get what we wish for. Our wishes ARE affirming though. We wish for the best of things, blessings, good health, happiness, and all the great things. The thing about wishes is we are reaching and hoping for positive things, which pulls our thoughts and actions and prayers toward positive things. It can make all the difference!
This week may be super busy with all the holiday events and finals, but I hope (wish) that you will take a look at the ideas below or in past newsletters to share with your class or campus about Wishes this week.
My Wish for you is that you ALL have rest and relaxation that restores your soul, that you make so many wonderful memories that warms your heart over the holidays to carry you into the new year with hope, health, joy and peace, and you celebrate something good each day of 2022!
Take Care and Read on! GO COUGARS!!

WISHES
HEY! Days in December
HEY! Days on Wednesdays in December will focus on "Wishes".
Everyone knows that children and teens, even my young adults, make their 'wish' list of things they are hoping to receive during the holidays. This month, I thought we would focus on these 'wishes' in a different way. I'm thinking of that classic song (below) about what we as grown ups really wish for, other than more sleep.
HEY! Day - December 15th
WISHES!
CHS and CMS have an area dedicated for students or classes to share their wishes for the season! CMS is encouraged to create a class Wish List of three wishes. CHS is encouraged to have students use an index card to write a wish, or 2, or 3 and put them in the designated pocket to be shared later. Index cards are on the window wall of the main hallway across from the cafeteria. These will be part of a large display of student wishes.
Ideas for your class or campus:
If I Had 3 Wishes, I Would Wish For... This is a great art, conversation, or writing prompt. Make a classroom or campus Poll for what students or educators wish for!

GAMES:
Four Corners Game from the 3 SEL Signature Practices Inclusive Welcoming Strategies
- Steps: Before the activity, mark four to five areas in the room with a large image, number, or word that corresponds to the choices you will be giving.
- Ask participants to silently reflect on a statement or question prompt that is aligned to the content of the engagement. - Ask about what they would wish for and offer 4 type of choices - things they want, need, what others want or need, something for their future, something in the past, etc.
- Share response choices with the group on a poster/slide (quotes, pictures, etc.).
- Instruct participants to choose one of the responses, then ask them to move to that designated "corner" of the room, find a partner or trio within the group that forms in that area, and share what drew them to that choice.
- NOTE: If you end up with a solo participant in a “corner,” join that person to hear their thoughts, using a timer to keep on track.
- Debrief by inviting two or three participants to share their choice and rationale with the whole group (or one person from each “corner” area, if time permits). You may also ask what they notice about the size and composition of the groups and/or what SEL skills and competencies came into play during the activity.
MIX AND MINGLE Game from the 3 SEL Signature Practices Inclusive Welcoming Strategies
- Steps: On a card or half-sheet of paper, ask participants to write down a response to "If I could grant a wish to someone, I would wish for....." "If I could give someone anything, I would give a wish to (Name) because..." "If I had 3 wishes, I would wish for 1... 2.... 3..."
- When you announce, "Mix and mingle!" and turn on Christmas/holiday music, participants move around.
- When the music stops, participants find a partner near them. Help with pairing if needed.
- Partners share their responses, listen actively to each other, and ask follow-up questions.
- Start the music again and repeat the sequence with another partner or two, as time permits.
- Debrief by asking one or more of these questions: What were some of the things you appreciate about doing this activity? What did you learn about yourself with this activity? What was challenging about it?
