News for September 28, 2023
Hello RAHS Families,
In Roseville we know that when families send their child to school, you are trusting us with your whole world. It’s our job to keep our schools as safe as possible. It’s also our job to be responsive when incidents occur in ways that build trust with our families and school community. We want to share more information about school safety and security and violence prevention.
Safety is important to us. That is why in Roseville Area Schools we have a District Safety and Security Team, as well as an Emergency Response Team at each school. The purpose of the District Safety and Security Team is to create safe and secure schools and to support site-based school safety. We have two areas of focus:
Safety and Security
Violence Prevention
Traditional safety and security focuses on things like school emergency response teams, school safety plans, locked exterior doors, quick locks for classroom doors, standard response protocols and a strong partnership and collaboration with the Roseville Police Department.
Violence Prevention is equally important. Violence prevention focuses on things like screening for risk and trauma, training for principals and administrators on violence prevention, social and emotional learning, anonymous reporting like the See It, Hear it, Report It form at RAHS and the STOPit App. Violence prevention also focuses on trusting relationships between students, staff, and administrators. Violence prevention also includes crisis prevention, response, and de-escalation.
The work of the District Safety Security Team and school teams is ongoing. We also review critical school incidents and learn from them so we continue to do better. If you have additional questions or are interested in being on the District Safety and Security Team, please contact Assistant Superintendent Melissa Sonnek at Melissa.Sonnek@isd623.org.
Thank You,
Melissa Sonnek
