Happy New Year! We are happy to be back with our students as we continue to work on our learning goals for 2024. We have a busy time ahead of us and we want to remind students and families of the importance of regular attendance as the school year moves along.

The last day of classes before the holiday was a lot of fun. A big thank you to the members of the Student Leadership Committee for planning such a great day.

Our Wellness Afternoon is scheduled for Jan. 31st. We are planning a variety of wellness related activities for students. Please note that some of the activities will require permission forms and specific equipment (eg. hockey equipment, appropriate winter wear for hiking). Permission forms must be submitted prior to the activities.

At this time of year, we are preparing for Post Secondary Reports. These progress report documents are primarily intended for students who are applying for post secondary studies. The document will reflect current grades for all courses. All students in grade 10-12 will be given a copy of their progress report as it is a good indicator of where students are at this point in the year (essentially the mid-year). There are no family-teacher conferences associated with this reporting period. As always we encourage parents/guardians to engage with teachers regarding their child's progress. We have a formal reporting period in March when we will schedule our second family-teacher conferences.

We have a peer tutoring program that will be up and running in the coming days. Students who would like to request tutoring services can see Ms. Cusick or Ms. White. If you have questions about the program, please contact 279-2313, ext. 23, tanyacusick@nlschools.ca or melissawhite@nlschools.ca

Bell Let's Talk Day is on January 24th. The focus of the day is to increase awareness and acceptance around mental health. For more information follow this link.

Any students wishing to apply to Memorial University's school of Nursing are reminded that the application deadline is February 1st. If you have questions, please drop by the Guidance Office.

Congratulations to our Girls and Boys volleyball teams. Both teams played in regional invitational tournaments before the Holiday Break. The boys won the tournament that was hosted here at MCHS and the girls finished second after a tight championship match in St. Lawrence. Big thanks to all involved!

Our boys hockey team travelled to Placentia this past weekend. They made it to the final but lost in a close game to Laval High School.

Our Girls are on home ice this weekend! We are asking our school community to wear school clothing or school colours on Friday, Jan. 12th to show support for the team. Click on the schedule image below to view as a document. Good luck Clippers!
